:omg That was the most bizarre thing I have ever seen ladies. It looks like D32 somehow got caught or tangled in Mom's leg feathers. That is one lucky eaglet. Thankfully, it let loose as Mom lifted off the nest. That could have been a disastrous outcome. Here are pics of the sequence of events.

Mom gets up from nest bowl and D32 is stuck to her feathers.
Image

Image

The feathers stay stuck and D32 gets dragged around with Mom.
Image

Image

Dad arrives. Mom talks to him and turns to get ready to take off.
Image

Dad sees what is happening. D32 still stuck to a Mom's leg feathers.
Image

Lift off and thankfully the eaglet detaches.
Image

D32 ended up on its back outside nest bowl.
Image

Eaglet rights itself and finds its way over to Dad, who is brooding D33. The eaglet eventually gets under Dad.
Image

Mom returns with a fish for a feed and Dad gets up to show us both kids in the bowl, safe and sound. D32 in the foreground.

I watched it as it happened and was horrified, first watching D32 being dragged, then left on its back, and flailing about until it managed to turn itself over and make its way under Dad. I am exhausted. :15heartbeat:

I have not figured out the fine tuning of going back on the DVR so I appreciate the photos from Loza and Nadia.

:7val: Ditto that Gigi. It was frightening to watch. A heart stopper for sure.
D32 looking none the worse for wear after his/her adventure.

:teehee: Little D32 is quite the feisty one. After bonking its sibling, it decided to get back at Mom for this mornings escapade.

D32 winding up for the attack.

Bonking Mom and getting a good grab of her head feathers.
Image

...holding on tight.
Image

...and a little twisting action for good measure.

D32 looking quite innocent.

They are growing up so fast and Mom just stuffs them. She prefers to do the feeds herself and complains when Dad tries to feed the kids. She's the boss. Here's a pic from today. D33 on the left has almost caught up in size to its older sibling, D32. D33 used to be timid during feeds from bonking and would hide behind Mom's legs to get some bites. The feeds for this little one have been going much better and D33 is becoming more brazen. D32 is starting to feather out and the sibling love is starting to show with playful beaking between the two.

Who wants to name D32 'Lucky'
WHY didnt Dad pull her off Mom?
Why didnt Dad pick her up and pull her inside?

I am just catching up since they hatched!

Rainy, cold day here today. 45 degrees. I opened the cam to see D32 shivering and wet. I went back through the DVR's last 4 hrs. Mom was trying to cover the eaglets during the rain. She also brought in two fish, but only D33 ate. Mom is once again trying to cover the eaglets. Hope D32 will be OK. Crazy weather. Just the other day, they were hot and panting.

:girlyes: After yesterday's cold, damp weather...all OK here. D32 finally had a nice feed before bedtime yesterday and temps rose before nightfall. It is still cold today...42 degrees right now, but both eaglets are dry and fine. Preening and eating. Mom brought in lots of hay yesterday afternoon to help them keep warm. D32 did some nest fluffing/aerating of his/her own this morning before laying down in that soft spot.

Back view...D33 (on the right) has really caught up in size to D32, but D32 is much more feathered out. Wondering if D32 is a boy and D33 a female.

While all the pictures are wonderful, that top one is a stunner! Thanks, Nadia.

Thanks Gigi. They have a great cam operator to get those close-ups.

The change in dynamics here between the two eaglets is interesting. In the beginning, D32 was the bonker, as expected from the older sibling. Although, D33 held its ground and instigated some bonks of its own. Now that that phase is over and D33 has caught up in size to D32, the older eaglet is being more submissive to D33 at feeds. This adds to my suspicions that D33 is a girl and D32 a boy. Here are some cute pics from today.

Dad was busy aerating the nest when Mom arrived with literally, a 1/2 bale of hay...lol. I think a horse on the nearby farm is missing its breakfast.
Image

Mom departs and leaves Dad to deal with the hay while the kids look on. :teehee:

:15heartbeat: Feisty D33 had a tug of war this morning with Mom over a fish tail while D32 watched. Mom eventually won...she likes the fish tails for herself.

The kids after breakfast. D32 on the right.

It's always more fun to do nestorations together...lol. Mom & Dad's little helpers.

:7val: Here are pics from yesterday 5/18. Both kids are trying their hand at self-feeding.

D32 (left) found a fish under the fluff of hay while D33 watches.
Image

D32 doing a great job at self-feeding.
Image

After D32 was done, D33 also tried to self-feed, but still needs a bit more strength for tearing.
Image

Mom arrives with more fluff for the nest and intently watches her youngest trying to feed itself.
Image

Mom ended up taking the fish and finishes the feed. Here are the kids afterward. D33 in front sporting the Mohawk look.
Image

Sibling love.
Image

A storm arrived late in the day and although both eaglets are trying to act all grown-up, they still look to Mom for comfort. :15heartbeat:
