one more... you can see why it would be pretty impossible for humans to get anywhere near this nest! Unless you were in a boat. and all that noise you hear from the cam is cars and trucks driving over the metal road bed by the drawbridge section. So "now you know"

Thanks so much, Mac! What a beautiful place for their nest! :bonnet:

I had thought before that it sounded like vehicles crossing a bridge but someone else thought it was a grain elevator type place.

What great shots of the falcons and their home. Very interesting place. Thanks.

I am so glad that there are at least 2 chicks, nobody has to be alone.
I got this shot earlier. Little babies out the back.

WOW...I had NO clue either!!! What a shocker!!! Thanks so much for posting pics of the area, Mac!! It really looks beautiful..and they have such a gorgeous view...it must be quite an adventure for the biologists to get to this nest!!! No wonder they just couldn't "walk" up there last year to fix the box!!

Wonderful pictures of the nest location and surroundings. Is this the "Casco Bay bridge"?
(I would like to have the exact location for all the PF nests, so the map that I am going to attach to the calendar is as accurate as possible.)

yes this is the Casco bay bridge in Portland Maine and I can't say for sure which of the 2 openings on the north (bay) side of the bridge has the nest but I hope to walk over the bridge one of these days to get a better idea where it is because I should be able to see the perch sticking out.

And yes we have our 3rd chick this morning!

Just caught a feeding here. They seemed to get their fill, heads nodded off at the end.

almost certain the last egg has hatched, sightings of a wing coming out of the cracked egg and mom eating shell but no confirmed photo of the new chick. Will keep watching for a good view.

4th and final egg just hatched, all I have for a picture is the empty shell so I'll keep watching for a view of the new guy.

I just watched the last feeding & there are definitely 4 little heads. The littlest one didn't seem to be interested in eating at first, but mom made sure he got a couple of bites! :clapegg:

Congratulations on #4!! :spingirl:

Mac, thanks for the location photos. It really puts some perspective on things. It looks like the round structures might help with fledging.

Nice pic of all 4 Maine chicklets, Mac! The pics from the still cam are much better quality than those from the live cam.

Once again, cheers to whoever made the decision about replacing the box that they started out with last year!
:wave :cheer :cheer

I'm pretty sure the box that was placed there last year was a regulation box, they did not design it, just did what they were told. It was quite a process to change the box in the middle of nesting season and they had to get special permission to do so. BRI was as concerned as all the online views but their hands are tied with endangered species such as falcons. And if you saw the location of this scrape you can see it is not easy to get to the nest quickly or easily.
But all is well this year, so far! Now to get past a few days of potential snow and cold rain at a critical point in their little lives...

Mom has been keeping them under and warm all day today. They are wriggling out tonight though.
