I saw this too just today. Not sure when I checked the nest last. Also, not so sure about this new design. Safer? Not sure how tall the sides are or if the chicks will be able to see over the edge. I always like for them to be able to see out good, that way no surprises when they jump up.

And what is that in the box? Pebbles? Looks kinda fluffy.

I wonder if they put new sides on the box because they also watched that terrible wind storm last year that nearly blew the newly hatched chicks out of the box...thanks, Tine!

Last year it was on all Winter (as far as I can remember), so it must have been the year before...

I did not know or remember about the wind storm. This may be why they did this. I sure hope it works out ok. Sorry Knorrie, thanks for posting.

Think the cam was on last year.

There were several of us watching this cam at the time. There were 4 newly hatched chicks getting blown all around & we were holding our breath because the front of the nest was so low they could easily have been blown out! I believe there was at least 1 video made of that. Maybe I'll look when I get a chance.

Here is where the discussion of the horrible winds begins on the old forum, including parents having trouble landing at the box...: http://www.hostingphpbb.com/forum/viewt ... rinefalcon

Good grief, I got anxious just reading it nearly a year later. I'm glad I didn't see it at the time, really. They were so tiny, it's a miracle they were not blown away.

I did watch De Mortel numerous times with the wind blowing so hard that I couldn't see how they could remain in the nest. It was miserable to see, but here again, just lucky they made it.

Maybe the sides will help.

Thanks catwoman.
