In 2009 a pair of bald eagles joined the Alcoa Davenport community in Iowa where they built their 7-foot nest on the 400-acre facility. Local employees named the two eagles Liberty and Justice. In 2010 they fledged two eaglets from this nest. In 2011 they fledged one eaglet, a female who was named Freedom.

A link to the recently upgraded new cam,

Thanks for the new thread! I think this is going to be a great cam to watch this year. Still hoping they get the sound on, I'm a little worried about that. But the video quality is terrific.

Here is action this evening, they got a pesky stick out of the middle of the nest. Judging by size, I think it is Mom who lands first, then Dad comes in to take charge of the stick placement. I'm trying to get a bead on telling the difference between Mom and Dad -- I had it down at Decorah, but I'm not there yet with this Davenport pair. Later in the vid Dad (I think) does the lay-down-in-the-bowl thing that I've observed Dad Decorah do.

Thanks for this great link! I used to work for Alcoa, and glad to see their support (especially after the Aussie situation).
Elf, I love your last video. I'm sure you are right about the IDs. She is really pushing him around with her size too. They are going to be really fun to watch!

I was thinking the same thing today when I was checking for an update at the Falcon nest

I enjoyed that very much. At 1:40-1:55 she admonishes him and he's like "What? I'm just standing here".
I like that it ended at dusk; a day's work on the nest.

Well, Mick, you are faster than me! Yes, I have a couple of videos that I hadn't yet posted here, and one more from this afternoon, parent with gimongous fish!

But here is some activity last Thursday:

And some fun stick wielding yesterday around dusk:

These parents are in the nest a lot in these ever-shorter days before the solstice. I watch Decorah too, and the adults there are quite scarce nowadays. I wonder what it is about Davenport, which is only a bit south of Decorah.

Fish this afternoon, but this is not a starving eagle, it takes its sweet time to nibble at the fish, and in the end leaves more than half of it in the nest. Still there at midnight! Wonder who will get the rest of it....

Also, the fish was not alive when brought to the nest, obviously not a fresh take from the river.

You are creating some great video from this nest elfruler. Thanks so much. When they land they really jump in each other's faces and the jump to the upper branch is nothing less than awesome.

I missed the disappearance of the remainder of the fish this morning, one commenter on the site said an eagle was there around 7:00 a.m. finishing it off. There are a few bits left over.

It's an excellent cam with good sound. All that is lacking is a continuous stream, you have to refresh about every 15 minutes.

I wonder if anyone has any insight on how to tell the adults apart -- I can see a size difference when they are both there, but I haven't identified specific distinguishing markings. Anyone?
