Sadly, the little one at the TP nest has passed away. On Saturday, it ended up coming down from atop the bridge, and landed on the barge beneath it. All attempts to rescue failed and the chick ended up falling into the river. The current swiftly carried it away and it was not recovered.

I have been away and was so looking forward to seeing this precious one. I am heartbroken .it makes us realize how fragile they really are at this stage.

thank you for trying to save it
can they erect some sort of barricade in off season so this does not happen

The female (mom) of the TP nest has not been seen since mid June, it's my opinion that she's passed away. Although there's no confirmation as of yet (and that would only happen if she's been located and reported with the numbers on her leg bands) The male (dad) continues to visit the nest box.

She was banded in Hempstead, NY in 2005, which means she's 14 years old and their lifespan is 7-15 years.
