march5-

early morning visit by male and then both in , then male and then I think female.

in my opinion, the way they are acting, one or both are new. One at least.

Not much time to watch this year.

FYI: SF group moderator message:

Quote:
It has been over 96 hours since Val laid the first egg and is well past the time (usually 48-50 hours) that Val should have laid a second egg. By late tomorrow she should have laid her third egg and started hard incubation.

Val and Dan have been observed mating and also bonding. There has been a lot of bowing and echupping and tonight Dan brought a meal for Val even though she wasn't hungry. We have had this situation before when there was a new female and that is what may have happened. There has also been a couple of interruptions at the nest box this year and that may have upset them.

I suspect that this will be a clutch of one egg and that Val? will start a new clutch soon.

Barbara

Jim did post a video of the two interacting yesterday and the female going back to the box and laying on the egg.

I did not get the report. I got it on my emailalso.

sometimes these things just happen. she may have dropped and egg but to say , she is starting a second clutch, makes no sense to me.

their whole report surprised me.
but that is their opinion.

i believe it is a new male here . I am not saying this is val as I believe this female i s new this year, but whatever male was here for egg one, I do not believe is here now.

I believe this is why we have one egg and we may have more with this new male.
the female here right now , would not incubate this egg if it was not hers. She may have eventually when her eggs were laid as in Gulf one year, but not now. so this is female that laid egg

this new male is not on same hormonal cycle as she is. so lots of mating an d courting. if this was same male he would have tried incubating. also, even though first egg. it was cute as he gave a little try yesterday. I am basing my opinion on what I have seen at other sites and my own. We had this happen at U of A and Weber. Green girl had 2 eggs when DO1 was defeated . there were 2 more eggs with new male. at u of A, like at demortlel , years back, the females had a full clutch , so male eventually incubated and learned to do all that was required .

watching san francisco, it seems like deja vu to me.

I'm not sure why the cam has been pointing toward the ledge all day. maybe its the default view and nobody's had time to move it.

Cam is finally pointed back to box. There appears to be 3 eggs still, but no falcons.

It's mid 50's here.

I haven't been watching constantly but have checked a few times today & haven't seen any adult in the last few hours...again, maybe I'm just not watching at the right time, but it is live as traffic is moving in background.

I don't know what's going on out here....San Jose - new male, and now a disappearing act in SF, unless maybe we've had a turnover or something.

:sunhohum:

Now it's 7:15pm PT - still an empty box with 3 eggs..... I'm thinking they may have abandoned the site or there has been a turnover.

Too dark to see, I did not see an adult return...

I watched for a while yesterday afternoon. I don't know how long the eggs were uncovered, but well over an hour. During part of that time, there was a falcon perched on the ledge, left, but did not return during my viewing. I'll try to put the cam up some today.
