First - our days start by around 5:30am and end at some time between 6:30 - 9 pm. Every day we have to set up and break down 'camp' that Tina has been so kind to share with you via video earlier today. Add the hot temps in the 90's every day we are amazed that we have such a dedicated BOG crew that are so patient to sit thru the heat while waiting for one bird to decide to fly. :-) Camop Tina has been a real rock spending so much time on duty driving because our access at HQ is very limited computer wise. She has done an excellent job following Soledad as she has ventured around the area.
Arriving at the HQ area we found Hartley on roof line there by us perched on the western side and kakking away. We thought we heard an answer from the roof line to the north or wondered if it was an echo. (Remember Soledad had flown from the rotunda at 5:09am and we needed to find her). Craig found Soledad on the roof of the apartment buildings across the street. Phew. Hartley had left the garage roof and flew to the tip top of the MLK library. Soon another bird flew in next to her, kakking, looked brown so maybe it was Soledad? Nope, she was still over on the apartment roof. Oh well. Prey to Soledad on the roof via Hartley. Soledad ate some by herself but eventually Hartley joined her and fed her some bites. Yes, Monty showed up nearby too and found his chance to eat some too once it started rolling down the roof. He flew with it over a little further north, ate then flew off.
Part of Soledad's rescue story is that she did a little bump into some glass when she landed in that pool area. We were very lucky that a couple that lives at the 88 follow the birds and helped us gain access for the rescue. Jon B. sustained some injuries to his hand from Soledad beaking a finger but both the bird and Jon made it thru the event very well. Sort of a badge of honor to claim you've been graced by a falcon during a rescue. Soledad was very wet when released on the roof but she sure seemed to dry out fast and started exploring. (BTW, getting up to that upper roof area isn't an easy ascent either so kudo's to Jon for carrying the box up there with a bird in it).
After that there isn't much to say that hasn't already been covered in the video's and posts by Tina. Yes, Soledad flew after we had left for the night but was found around 7th floor level on the east side of the building out of cam sight so another early morning tomorrow. Fingers crossed she flies higher next time and sticks a good landing wherever she goes.
Occasionally I've been able to take some photos but I haven't been able to check them to see if there are any good ones to share. Craig has also been taking pictures so I'm hoping he will share some too.
