thank you again for all keeping us informed, and for those keeping our kids safe by being boots on the ground.

This morning (Wednesday) both juvies made some nice flights over to Pennsylvania Place, a few blocks from the Carson Building. That's a high rise apartment building, MUCH higher than Carson. They returned to Carson, only to take off again and disappear from our view on the top of 333 Market Street. We stayed until around 12:30, feeling comfortable with their flights. The heat and humidity for the past day and a half have been AWFUL. Both are on the nest ledge right now, and kind of hoping they stay put for the rest of the day. We are likely to have some thunderstorms later today.

I spent about an hour downtown this morning, with concerns over last night's storm. Not sure where both juvies were, but Little Yellow was definitely on the U Building roof. He flew to the glass cubbie above the nest ledge. Little Dad was on the stick then, and Niecey flew over to the camera perch. Walked over to the train station for a different angle, and what do I see but Big Yellow flying in from somewhere. She circled over the station and then managed to bump Niecey off the camera perch! Niecey retreated to the scrape, and then got up on the shield. Big Yellow jumped off the cam and chased Niecey from the shield. Niecey flew over to the U roof. Not sure where Little Dad and Little Yellow were when I left. Big Yellow is chilling in the shadow of the orange post right now.

Jane, I'm so glad you got to see Big Yellow knock Niecey her off her perches! That would have been something to see! :clap:

:1val: Update on rehab:

6/11/2020 :: Weathering the Storms
Both juvenile falcons weathered last night's storms without incident. Both are flying well, and today's highlight was watching the second fledgling circle above the train station and then return to the ledge, knocking the adult female off the camera perch!
That leaves one youngster still recuperating at Red Creek Wildlife Center. Fortunately, there are no breaks or significant injury. As of today, this falcon began taking short flights. It appears this individual bird is simply a late bloomer. So, to err on the side of caution, it has been decided to allow this young falcon to further improve its flight skills before releasing it. If everything progresses as planned, it will be released at the Rachel Carson State Office Building (RCSOB) on Monday.

:flirty: Wonder if this is Big Yellow atop the rear wall of the nest. Whoever it is ... is HUGE and it doesn't look like Niecey to me ... well they moved a little and I think I did see a white chest for a few seconds, so guess it is Niecey!

I've not seen a juvie on the ledge today, but both adults have been there pretty much. Someone noticed that the green tape has come off Niecey's right leg band. I just scrolled back through the posts on here, and found one on May 9 where the tape was still there.

Both juvies were on the ledge for quite some time, but gone now. Looked like Yellow Foot sort of out on the stick and Big Yellow on the point.

Looks like Yellow Foot is having a snooze on the fat part of the stick right now.

Niecey comes in and lands on the shield calling for Lil' Dad, I'd say. She goes to the nest and scratches around and looks into the camera then back out calling again, then back to the nest, etc. Never saw Lil' Dad.

But later a juvie on the point.

I hope to see the juvie in rehab soon.

What a treat about an hour ago to see two juvies on the ledge. At first it was just Little Yellow, closely followed by Big Yellow. She had food, and mantled it down near the orange post. When her brother tried to take some, she drug the prey down the ledge and was eating it kind of behind the scrape, but out far enough that she could be seen. Niecey came in a couple times and was chased off by Little Yellow. He flew somewhere, but wasn't gone long, and eventually he was able to get some of the food himself, and they ended up sharing. Not one bite of the prey was left when they finished. When I started to type this, Big Yellow was bumming on the ledge in front of the windows.

:flirty: 6/17/2020 :: Released from Rehabilitators!
Earlier today, the third juvenile that had been rehabbing at Red Creek Wildlife Center was picked up and returned to downtown Harrisburg. At approximately 12:30 pm, this juvenile falcon was successfully released from the top of the Rachel Carson State Office Building. As it was released, this falcon immediately took to the skies and flew well. Without colored bands, it has been a challenge tracking each juvenile. The Watch and Rescue volunteers are continuing their observations and look to provide a more detailed report soon.
