in all my years of watching, I have never seen an adult attack a young falcon. But they do usher it out. the one exception, was at our site 2 years ago. Our female and male accepted a young juvenile from a site not far away and raised it as it s own. that young male is now nesting at one of our sites. and that was 2 weeks after fledging. we were surprise das our fmela is usually hard nosed about tthat

I do remember one year the young femlae peregrine thought the male was play8ing with her, so he ha dot go further out.

There are always exceptions bu t we have watched os much and this has been our experience. as all people are different , so are all peregrines

my thought would be that , this young one collided with a building .

Some great, great news posted on facebook a few hours ago...Spirit has been FOUND!!!! She's not in great shape, but she's alive!!

Spirit was located by a trucker today and she's in good hands at the bird s' clinic. Here are Dr.'s comments. Fitzgerald:
We found several wounds around the beak and an arthritis at the right elbow. She's also very skinny. I think I can save her, but I'm not sure I can save her ability to fly. It will depend on the evolution of the healing of his arthritis at the elbow.

SGB, that is the best news!! I saw that post on Facebook, but the translation was so poor that I couldn't accept it was really Spirit found.

Does a heart good!

Hi bev,
If you (or somebody else) wish to donate to the raptor clinic where Spirit is cared for, here is a link:

I am sure they will appreciate.

I did also Carolyn, but she is a survivor. So I hope they can make her strong again. She has always been around , and it is hard when the disappear like that.

how far was she from the site.

I read the posts from FB and someone said she wasn't far from the nest site. They said it was Boulevard Descaries in Montreal

Spirit was found below a water tank, located roughly 4kms from the university, near the junction of 2 motorways. And guess what I have found on this water tank this morning? Another peregrine falcon! This peregrine is unbanded so it is not Eole. As you can see on the video the falcon is vocalizing but I have not seen any other falcon. A new mystery...

wow, maybe she got tangled with this falcon . Or maybe when she gets well, she can return here ,if it is a male, and have a spot.

good detective work.

and the mystery continues. My heart is with Spirit.

From the Facebook page of "Faucons de l'UdeMontreal.
Quote:
News from Spirit since she was sent to the Clinique des Oiseaux de Proie. Her name, Spirit, takes on its full meaning. In addition to her arthritis at the elbow, following an X-ray, it was observed that she suffered a broken right hip that healed on her own (this explains her lameness which had been observed many times on cameras).
She was already known to be ferocious and aggressive, but her courage is inspiring. Interestingly, Christopher Meyer observed a peregrine falcon this morning at the spot where she was found. This one was not ringed, so it is not Éole, and according to the pictures it does not seem to be Eve either. Possibly that Spirit had made a new friend, it is possibly also a popular hunting place.

Oh my, Sweet little Spirit alive and possibly a new mate? How sad to read of her injuries and weight loss, a previous broken hip too? Poor dear. I hope the best for her.
