At another nest in Montréal (Jacques-Cartier bridge) a juvenile from last year is still at the site and is interfering with the current nidification, as shown in this video: https://youtu.be/BEpZ7mvmLM8 (in addition, immediately after the juvenile left the nest box she tried to steal the meal from one of the adults). The adults show no sign of trying to drive her out of the territory. To be exact, this juvenile is not a natural daughter from the pair; instead, she was adopted by the pair after being released near the nest on June 30, 2022 together with one of their natural daughters.

This was the first year in over than 10 years that young peregrine falcons flew from one of the nesting boxes on this site, so this pair is probably facing such a situation for the first time. In the only other case in Montreal of an interference by a previous year juvenile that I know (University of Montreal, 2010), it was the first time that the pair successfully raised younglings the previous year. Perhaps the peregrine confronted with this experience are learning in the hard way to not tolerate anymore juveniles of the previous year, which leads to the following question: are there known cases where a pair tolerated a juvenile from the previous year in more than one nesting season?

One of the many press reports about the laying of 4 eggs at the University of Montreal nest: ''Viewers can't get enough of this 24/7 falcon nest cam at Université de Montréal'', CBC, April 29, 2023

You are talking about Polly, right. She had an injured leg if I remember and then went on to get her own site.. adults are more tolerant of youngsters. I see this more and more but after awhile they are moved on .

Well...I thought I had overstepped my bounds on Thursday when they commented (on Facebook) that they thought the remaining chick might be infested with parasitic flies..but, thought Mom was taking care of it..well, as politely as I could, I said that they could not wait..and probably needed to intervene NOW...they respectfully responded "no"..(I was reading between the lines)..(remember the horrors, several years ago, at Red Wing and Bay State..those nasty things killed several chicks)

Well, things got so bad yesterday, Friday, that they quickly intervened!! apparently the baby was on its back and very weak. They treated and returned...Good for them!! YAY

So far, so good this morning...

Please keep the Montreal chick in your thoughts/prayers.

From FB about 22 min. ago.

hello to all. Did you notice, the hawk is unfortunately in bad shape this morning. We don't know the cause, but last night he seemed fine and tonight his condition has deteriorated. There are several possibilities, including a virus or a congenital problem that has just surfaced. We would like to step in and transport to St Hyacinth, at least to document his condition even if it turns out he cannot be saved. But we are waiting for government permission to do so. Nature is cruel sometimes, with falcons here the stories are often happy, but unfortunately there are years where things are less good. Thank you all for your kind words and support, more news to follow.

I just watched a feed. Appetite appears very good...but, the little one does appear to have some balance issues...more so than a chick this age.

Nice feed, nice white poop but was under mom on back. Mind you , mom was not letting it turn over as she was trying to brood. Fingers crossed.
