We have been watching since April 4th and have tried to convince ourselves that the male is Brooklyn. There was just something off about this bird, he wasn't perching where Brooklyn usually did, also the breast feathers and malars were different. Today I got the band number. It is not Brooklyn, it is Sol D/20, Hurricane and Brooklyn's son from 2012, We are glad that he survived the last four years but saddened that Brooklyn has not returned......as of yet.

Sol is quite the little flyer, lots of aerobatics and showing off to his mom, she doesn't seem to be impressed or receptive yet. He flew around her and looked like he wanted to mate but she never got into position for that. I am sure she will come around if Brooklyn doesn't show up. I did get most of her band number.....the 2 and the Y and sure as sure it's Hurricane.

I guess Hurricane has accepted Sol as a mate, I saw them tandem hunting yesterday and this morning I saw them mate. :egg13: :15heartbeat:

Gorgeous pics, Carolyn..but, such bitter sweet news..I hope if Brooklyn DOES return, that his son, Sol, will graciously step aside..(I can hope, can't I? LOL)

Doesn't seem to be from what I have observed. Hurricane doesn't seem to be all that cozy with Sol as of yet.

I received an email from TPC from Manitoba Forum.....Hurricane and the new male Sol have four eggs!

We saw them do a nest exchange on Saturday, May 7th. I think they were in hard incubation on the 4th or 5th because we were only seeing one or the other.

No I won't!! :gaaaaah: When they are old enough to band Tracy puts them on the lower roof, then it will be at least two weeks before they get up on the wall. So not happy about that! :egg15:

There have been two hatches here, probably last night. I caught a feed around 3 pm today.

Hurricane in with the prey

Sol is fast, I didn't see him sneak in when Hurricane removed the leftovers. I think I looked down for a sec.

After the feed, she only took a five minute break to stretch.

Can't seem to shake that feather on her face! :teehee:

This is my favorite nest. You can't take the girl out of the small town (province) and not let her be loyal to her childhood home. Thank you Carolyn and RC for all the photos you post.
