We've got a baby down at Bell. Gord has her. One small male left he said. That's all I know...except he picked one up this morning "playing in traffic"

All is well with her and heading to the hack box.

I only spoke with him briefly - I'm hoping maybe Bev will have more info...I was speaking with him in the middle of a big crowd - hard to talk.

I never disclose much here anymore TRish because it gets blown out of proportion but I will post things later . I am just dong pictures .
I will fill you in when I see you but he did not pick on e up Saturday Trish. the one going to hack was picked up later in week.

have not had time to update:

our bell male as you probably guessed from photos left early morning July1.

without sound and insert, it was hard to pinpoint but I think emyrauld and I got it within hours, knowing when we saw him last and when he did not turn up. we had to keep cams going 24 hours for this.

I let Dr. Court know and he went down to look but could not see anything , so we hoped he would be able to fly over to a known roof and be fed. He went off too soon, but doable for a male.
it had been and still is raining non stop ,so it was probably slippery and he may have even been accidentally knocked off as we have seen that before.
Peter and I also went down a few days later and walked around and saw nothing and with noise down there we heard nothing but the good thing was , the adults, were not in sight either, which gave us hope they were looking after the young male.
Then we could not see the adult female on cam for quite some time , which indicated , that maybe she was taking care of youngster

then on morning of July 5 , bell young female left .
she was not ready ,but not a bad age either , but I knew approx. what time I had last seen her and when she did not turn up on cam as usual in early morning. ( now without history or insert or sound[/b] , I had to keep cam running 24 hours , and do as best a guess as I could. I let Dr. Court know and within a few hours she was located by 2 police officers . She was fine and was taken out to hack site a few days ago.

the good news is :
on July 15, about 8:28 p young male returned :penguin:

I have not got out to Mis yet but Janice was out there yesterday and got young male flying and adult female

I have to check with Gord to see what I can share here. cam went out very early into nesting. June 19 .
and it has not been monitored ,as no way to monitor. With everything going on at other sites, I did not have time to get out there, so I was glad Janice got there yesterday and caught our young male flyng. peter and I will try an d get out there this week.

U of A july29

where does one start. I will do slideshow with photos after july8 till fledge watch.

but here are notes

[b]fledge watch started july7,[/b] even though we knew kids were not ready. this is one of the worst sites for females, and Radisson and Chase had no males this year. Gord removed biggest female and these 2 were still huge. you never know who was going to knock who off. :girlcrazy:

the kids were behaving and eating well and flapping well.

july10-
our K16 went out on rail.

these girls got quite as aggressive and it was hard for adults to get food into nest box. it was quick throw ins. up and until now they were able to get in and do a bit of beak feed.

july11-
K16(older and bigger female) spent more time on rail flapping, but K45 then went out on rail also. K45 was quite clumsy
adults were now doing fly bys with food, and got kids riled up . this part was nail biting while watching, as it was too soon for either to leave.

july12 K16 is 41 days old and K45 is 39 days old

july13-
K16 went over to netting first. she became quite capable of going back and forth . K45 went over to netting also. K16 did lots of flapping on netting . K45 ( smaller of females) was quite clumsy and content to sleep on netting.
both to box and tucked in at night

july14- 43 days and 41 days

would like K16 to stay till day 44 but she was very strong.

7:32am- K45 flapped down to lower roof( below box) , not on purpose. Do not like this as they go on narrow ledge and she was so clumsy. . k45 was on ledge below and she cat walked out of view to north side. We had to go to maz to find her. she slept there for quite a bit. .( she was youngest)

12:26pm -
K16 went up to roof of box from rail below. this was just what she was supposed to do. then she flew to netting from roof. Yes!!! K16 did well all day . she went up to roof a few times.
3:39pm - Radisson gave some food to youngster (K45) on lower ledge. below box.

K16- goes from netting to railing outside box at 5:05pm and then up to roof, o f nest box. K45 walks over to northwest corner again . that darn Chase does a fly by with food and then leaves food on roof of CS across from nest box.

and it went down hill from there. K16 was doing all she was supposed to and I was confident that given one more day, she would be a good flier and overcome the obstacle of the maz.
but Chase had other plans. I have this love hate relationship with him LOL
Our K45 , came back to front part of ledge and Chase retrieved prey and put it on narrow slippery pillar just below ledge. what an ***** K45 went to pillar and started to eat. now she had already eaten a few times that afternoon and K16 had only had scraps.

Trish and MIke turned up and even tough storm was rolling in , we thought all would be well, and left. Peter had done two shifts and he had to be back for 6am next morning. Dogs had been alone.
We no sooner got home when Trish phoned.
Chase had called K16 down to eat on silver pillar also. so now there were two there . k45 went back to ledge but K16 was still on pillar and got blown off. Mike went to 5th floor maz but could not spot her
Peter went down to help as he knew every nook and cranny. Jean had been watching from her window and with her direction, and talking with Trish, Peter managed to spot her on medical lab building just behind nest building. that part of building , you could not see from 5th floor. She was high enough and safe for the night. And K45 was on pillar now, and we suspected she may come down during the night.

july14

K45 was found on ground at 3am and security guards surrounded her so she could not get away , until Trish and mike arrived.( our phone did not sound) They did a meet with peter , and then he made his way back to university . K16 was still where she was night before. Lisa kindly came early and Janice came about 8 am.
We knew if she flew to CP she would be o.k. but she was too low to get up on maz. She decided to try for maz and hit it 3/4 way up. she circled around and Peter thought , good , she is o.k. but nope, she tried again and hit it again. luckily with her feet. They thought she went down , and after looking , could not find her. Then Lisa heard the magpies making a fuss.
Follow the magpies , and there she was , across from maz in a lower spruce tree. She was in front of parkade and only 2 stories up. how would they get her.
To make a long story short, Peter got a long pale from hospital maintenance . Janice and Lisa were in position on ground and Peter gave her a gentle tap . down she went but eluded Lisa and Janice and went across road to maz. she was eventually captured.
earlier Patti had come to examine K45 an d she was healthy and fine.
so Peter took K16 and K45 to the rehab for K16 to be examined. she was very feisty and in great shape. So Peter drove out to Dr courts and turned them over.
they remained with Dr court , until they were ready for the hack site.

NOTe :
The people mentioned above were not the only ones at the watch. I did not have time to do in depth reports every day as usual as we had fledging going on at Genesee that I was monitoring also; and had a few rescues to do there also busy time.
Last year I passed organization of watch over to Marge, Trish ; and Lisa came on board this year. I would like to thank them and also like to thank Josephine, JEan, Aaron, Brad, BARb , janice, and Mike also for coming out .

The good thing is our girls are safe and as far as radisson and chase go, they were successful, as K16 did fly, and given a few days K45 would have also.

radisson and chase are now bonding and maintaining their site.

I also want to add that I could not do all my monitoring without the help of my friend EMyrauld who gives up so much of her time. :7val:

Radisson got home late afternoon yesterday april6 . Jean texted me and sent picture. Computer almost up. A few more things and then I will send picture.

we were at U of a and Rdisson was on perch of box. dd not see chase. went to bridge, and no one there

MIsericordia

saw both here. female was at box and male flew in with prey and she flew out with it and around. She then perched below male on left corner of box and ate. Male was on antenaee . was so mad camera was not working.
