Thanks so much for that info, Beth...they were talking about this nest on the Great Spirit Bluff chat. Somebody from Red Deer said that there had been hatches..but, no idea how many and won't know until they come out of the box..

I am new to this BCAW forum, but an old war-horse veteran of the Peregrine, dating back to the 1960’s. I am passionate about all raptors but Peregrine Falcon is my ultimate, all time favorite. Here is a brief description of my passion for the species.

It all began in +/- 1960 when a Falconer brought a young female Peregrine to our school (Grade 6 or so) and explained a very bleak and uncertain future for her species, due to the widespread use of chemical pesticides. My eyes teared up & heart literally melted at this sad, sad story.

From there, our classroom lovingly named this beautiful creature Cobalt for her stunning blue / grey color. I have had a passionate place in my heart for the Peregrine Falcon ever since and have faithfully followed their recovery from the brink of extinction.

Thanks to the banning of DDT & other pesticides in Canada and the USA in the 1970’s, and to the tireless work of people like Bob Anderson & Dr. Gordon Court, and many, many volunteers like you, they have made a dramatic comeback. We have amazingly come from 1 pair of Peregrine Falcons left in Alberta in the 1970’s to an estimated 70 breeding pairs of today. A miraculous recovery, but there is still much to do.

Please see “Kitten's” link above to a 35 page Raptor Resourse Project (RRP) forum OR ~ http://www.raptorresource.org/forum/ind ... 859.0.html ~ to our Red Deer River Naturalists (RDRN) Telus Communication Tower history. The introduction on page #1, entry #1 explains a year by year history of the nest box successes and/or failures. Follow the forum page by page for multiple day by day photos & updates of their progress even without the active tower cams.

Monday, September 15th, 2014, 8:33 AM MDT;
Thanks to our very efficient friend Allie, she did make a tower report last night that our Pefa are still here. But cuz of me seeing nothing on Satruday, it spurred me to check my records. In 2012, Windsong and Nessa had left prior to Sept 13th, (parents do leave first) and the kids were gone by Sept 15th. So obviously, migration time is very soon. I think migration is triggered by the chill of the nights, NOT by the daytime temperatures. Daytime temps this time of year can be very deceiving, where as nightime chill is relatively constant.
That is my theory, but please; if anyone has more accurate info, by all means, please correct me. We never stop learning when it comes to PeFa. :egg19:

Thanks Beth & it is nice to be here. :egg20: Emyrauld had told me about this site (BCAW) long time ago but I just recently found some spare time to join. I will most likely keep the RRP Forum up to date but post update links here for you folks to see what is happening at RDRN. Obviously now, not much until spring but I do plan to post periodic "Hello's" on both sites & any news on the progress of our 2015 RDRN cams. I will be in touch with JB regularly over the winter months. :comp

You are more than welcome Beth. It is all a labor of love for our Falcons, I know you feel the same.

I have a bit of an update. ~~ I got an email from a very reliable source and she mentioned she had visited Nadira at the Edmonton Valley Zoo a few years ago. At that time, Nadira had a young female Pefa in his enclosure with him. Great news !! He was alone when we were there (Aug. 31st) but this could potentially mean what the Zoo staff had mentioned about the captive breeding program. OR that the program is indeed in progress. I certainly hope so, it would bring such great meaning to Nadira's life in captivity. I have several emails in to the Valley Zoo for any updates / news regarding our precious Nadira, but it is just a matter of getting them to the right City of Edmonton Department to get them forwarded to the Zoo. (Zoo does not have a direct email addy)

I wonder if Gord Court would have more info on this matter ?? I would certainly trust his input much more.

UPDATE: The Edmonton Valley Zoo does indeed have a direct email addy & I have an updated email in to them right now = we will wait for a response.

I was reading some of your reports

and I will update Edmonton later .
Our juveniles always leave beginning sept ( sometimes a bit later) adn sometimes a bit earlier, ahead of our adults

our adults always leave end of sept and first week in oct. maybe because we are further north. our adult males always seem to leave last week in Sept and our females first week in oct.
at present our adukts at all of our sites are still present.
