Hi Bev,
Great to "see" you and thank you for your tireless work with the Edmonton / Genesee falcons. Thank you also for the info and it spurred me to do a little archive digging to refresh my own memory.

Our info / notes begin in 2010 with the introduction of our cams. In 2010 & 2011, all of our PeFa families had migrated by Sept. 20th. In 2012 our parents were gone pre Sept. 14th and the baby's left on the 15th. Last year (2013), with the cams going down in early June & without an active ground crew, very few notes were recorded. This year, (2014), it seems migration is occurring as I am making this report.

These dates are a joint venture of my friend Summerfly & my own tower observations. This year (2014), Allie_Cat has been the "home run hitter" of our little team and did a tremendous job. Hopefully for next season, Summerfly's health will rebound and she can be back to being an active member of our observation team.

I have no explanation for why our PeFa would leave earlier than yours and why it seems the parents leave first & baby's later. The one thing I have learned with our Peregrines is ...... there is "no rule of thumb". You think you have them figured out and they will throw you a curve ball. That's what makes them such incredibly entertaining & interesting subjects to follow. I Love them unconditionally.

Upon my "drive-by" this AM; and right about on schedule, it does indeed appear that our peregrine family has "flown the coop" for the warmer clim'es of the South. ~~~ Not unlike a lot of Canadians do this time of year. :teehee: ~~~ We will miss them dearly (the falcons, not my fellow Canadians) but this event simply starts the cycle all over again in prep for next season. Have an absolutely Great off-season everyone.

Thanks Beth,
Wud I be safe in assuming you mean the SW Florida (Fort Myers) & the NE Florida eagle cams ?? If so, yup, I got 'em on my fav's. The GA one I am not sure tho.

I only pay some attention to the eagles & GHO's tho, peregrines are my ultimate all time favorite raptor. Helps so much to have them nesting "in my own back yard" so to speak. The little kestrels and merlins are a very close second, love those little guys too.

TTY again soon.

March 1st, 2015 report. <<>> The last word we have from JB (mid month) was that, although the nest box is still atop the tower, all the old equipment has been taken down and will not be going back up. The existing cams are too archaic and obsolete to work with any potential new system. Thus meaning, if RDRN is to continue broadcasting our treasured falcons, all new wireless cams & equipment will have to be purchased.

Well, I hope that you can get them to put up new cameras, I will be cheering for you. How about looking for a sponser to help with the cost., Like a their logo inside the box. Find them and use it to sweeten the deal if needed.

Thanks for the well wishes, West. The sponsor option has, is and will be brought up again at the RDRN budget meeting. Being that it is the "Telus Tower" I would think RDRN would give them the first option to "jump on the band wagon". At this point, sponsorship is out of our hands, & up to JB, RDRN & Telus to iron out the "bugs". I just hope they don't "drop the ball" & it gets too late :( Talons, fingers, toes, eyes & ears crossed. :hmmmm

Just a thought, since Rodgers seems to be ruling the sporting world. Then maybe Telus might want to show that they care about the environment, with the advertising budget money. PE cameras are world wide.

It has become dreadfully official that the Red Deer Falcon Cams will not be live again. There have been just too many issues with them but yet JB decided to give it "one more kick at the can" to see if it was feasible. It isn't so RDRN has taken down the Ustream sites and the page on RDRN's website.
At least now we know & don't have to hang on to false hopes.
Thanks for all of your support in the past.

that is really too bad that you could not get someone on line but I know how hard it is, I know from Edmonton just how fragile it is

Yes, Bev & Tsusan, we are very disappointed but after 4 consecutive years of NO cams, it is not a monumental let down to be without them. JB did give it her best shot, it just wasn't to be without Corporate sponsorship support. I just couldn't believe Sponsors wouldn't "jump all over" this advertising opportunity. Worldwide coverage, environmentally friendly, gorgeous looking species, wow, they really blew it!! ~~ Oh well, it is water under the bridge now.
