Jazzel - did they say if there male or female?

Patti, they didn't say anything about their sex, in fact, as far as I can tell from the video they did the banding very quickly, looks like they never got out of the bucket. Usually, when chicks are banded, they are also weighed, measured and their general physical condition recorded. I will ask Barb and Sparky for more details.

JAZZEL

Patti, Barb sent me this today.

"It looked like 1 male and 1 female. They did not take weight and
measurements as the equipment to do so was mistakenly left behind.

Barb"

She knows her birds, both eagles and ospreys!!! And many others! She got the banding organized on very short notice, but that's another story

Yesterday I emailed Sparky to ask when the cam was going on line, and if the Ospreys where back yet. This is her reply...keep your talons crossed

I just got back to Florida.
Things are a bit sticky on the cam for this year. The Parks and Recreation Dept, who used to run the golf course, where the camera is, leased it out to a private company. When I talked to them in the spring, they did not seem the least bit interested in having an OspreyCam on their property. I'm going to try speaking with them again next week
Ospreys have already staked out their nests for the season here.
Sparky

There are a lot of good people working on the situation with Sparky. The City Council, City Manager, Parks and Recreation Dept., Zucker and Zucker (the web designers), and the IT people are looking into different options to get the cam back on line. They have all been very good about keeping me posted on the situation, but nothing definate so far. As soon as I get a final answer, I'll post it. I sent an e-mail yesterday to St. Andrews Links, in support of the Dunedin Osprey Cam Project. I also let them know my feelings on the issue. This is part of my e-mail...to long to post in it's entirety.

I am shocked to learn the Dunedin, FL, St. Andrews Links Golf Course, is denying internet access to the Dunedin Osprey Cam Project!!! Knowing Billy Casper Golf is enrolled in Audubon International's Audubon Cooperative Sanctuaries Program makes this situation, not only inconceivable, it's disgraceful!!

The Dunedin Osprey Cam has been a very successful project, supported not only by the Dunedin community, but supported and followed by people from around the world. This osprey cam is not entertainment, it's an educational tool. The situation is an outrage…insulting to all that support Audubon Societies, on any level, as well as, all that support wildlife research, education and conservation.

St. Andrews has made the Dunedin Osprey Cam Project very difficult this season, shame!! The ospreys have been on the nest for a month and will begin mating any day now, they will have eggs at the end of December. I hope the decision to deny internet access will be reconsidered, and Billy Casper Golf will support this project.

Maybe the worst part of the situation (I found out after I sent the e-mail), St. Andrews won't allow anyone access to check the cam!!!!

Update on my last post :sfyea:

The cam should be back on line very soon. This afternoon Sparky said everything looks good for the cam!!! The City of Dunedin is taking care of everything…they arranged access to the cam, and are paying the internet expenses for this season. :bravo

Sparky went out to the cam with a Dunedin IT crew today, she said  "They accessed the camera and it works fine!!!!! In fact the lens was even clean and the female landed in the nest as if she knew the camera was on her"

A working, clean cam, and the female concerned about the nest....very, very good!!!

Sparky will let me know when the cam is going on line, but I'm working on a waterfowl survey :buzzybee: so I may not be able to post on time. Check the cam...almost as good as waiting for an egg, hatch or fledge

The people in Dunedin should be very proud of their city.... :wave I am!!
