On the Looduskalender forum SHSHEN reported the Hailuoto site has posted a picture of KOOS skeletal remains.

Maybe Ploughboy or DEF can translate the captions.

Just posted by OLGA on the Looduskaledar forum.

" I didn't notice that news about Koo. There eventually are pictures of the skeleton of Koo. It seems that the leg was not broken on joint but in the middle of that 'leg bone'! If it had been noticed in time it had not been impossible at all to help recover in right position, I think. Sorry my emotionality...

They have named Koo with a new Name, Nätti Jussi, a legendary person, a timber workman in Lapland, about on the years in he first half of 1900. He had a deformed other foot, the heel was in front when he walked. But on the other hand, nothing to do Nothing to with our poor Koo, who could not help himself and no-one did!

I'll try to translate the texts under the pictures tomorrow.

http://kotinetti.suomi.net/saaksi/galle ... ranko.html
Why on earth are those pictures on the page of some private person, I don't know. Did he own the bird!"

Hi Jazzel
http://kotinetti.suomi.net/saaksi/index.php

Okay...my computer is capable of translating the text. "Injured chick skeleton"
When I click on it, the pictures are blocked. Oops, now it works!

First photo: "Cute Jussi"
Skeleton: Osprey chick with a disability "Cute Jussi". Skeleton is the University of Oulu
Zoological Museum. The hunters found the chick out of a ditch 2km of nest in
early September. A boy had to put an end to 9.9.2009.
Second photo:
Foot: Chick boy injured left foot. Multiply that Cute-Jussi feet showed different directions.
Third photo:
Ring: These pictures are seen, carefully place the foot of the cross is gone.
Fourth photo:
Osprey luuanalyysia: The left leg tibia has gone to the cross section with feathers on foot,
ie the time from the topo. It is well ossified, but in the wrong
position. Seketal does not look too weak. (Matts Finnlund)

I can't follow my computer translation...wording is very confusing. :?

SHSHEN, thanks.

The bottom line for me is, Koo should never have been placed back on the nest!!!
Koo should have been taken to a rehab veterinarian for evaluation!!!
I don't understand why, when they have an ENGLISH choice on the nest cam site, they don't use it for issues regarding Koo!!! No problem getting instructions, to buy video access to their cam...lots of english there :tearhair

"Nätti Jussi" = KOO

Skeleton:
The crippled osprey chick "Nätti Jussi". The skeleton is on in Animal Center, in University of Oulu.
The hunters found the chick in a beck 2 km from the nest in the beginning of September.

The chick had to be finished off 9.9.2009.

The leg:
The left leg was injured when the chick was infant. It is known that the feet pointed in divergent directions.

Bone anlysis:
The shinbone in left leg was broken under the feathers quite up in the leg, it was ossified but in wrong position.

The skeleton analysis showed that the leg bone seemed not to be apt to get broken. ( Matts Finnlund)

Ploughboy, Thank you for the translation!! Now we know Koo was properly investigated, and Koo's story will not be forgotten.

Ploughboy, you're the best :loveshow:

Thanks ploughboy....we will never forget Koo...and I do hope his death will not have been in vain....that if ever a situation such as this occurs again, there will be immediate intervention....and that will be Koo's legacy...

I think this pic is an important document for the forum. So many members spent countless hours following, praying and working for Koo. I wanted to post it before it's taken off the cam site. Koo taught all of us so much, and will keep on teaching.

Hi Jazzel
Thanks for posting the pic of Koo's remains. I am not an expert, but it seems to me that if intervention took place, Koo's leg could have been fixed. I don't believe she was born with this.

I have many thoughts about the owner of the website but that is another story. . .

Hi

I am the owner of Finnish discussion forum, Osprey's Nest - The Place To Be!, and i have wonderful news for you all.

We have negotiated with Voitto Pulkkinen, the administrator and owner of the Hailuoto-Marjaniemi Osprey Nest Webcam, and Voitto Pulkkinen has agreed that images from the webcam may be posted for example here on BCAW.

Here is the text of the agreement:

-----------------------
All screen capture images from the Hailuoto-Marjaniemi Osprey-nest webcam are available for use in non-commercial and non-profitable connections, but use by media such as television, newspapers etc. is prohibited.

Recording and presenting of recorded video stream in other than private use is prohibited.
Screen captures may be uploaded and stored in commercial photo-hosting websites, such as Photobucket, ImageShack, Flickr, Pic-Upload, etc.

If screen capture images from the Hailuoto-Marjaniemi Osprey-nest webcam are posted to any website, forum or blog, the name of the original owner of the image copyrights must mentioned: © Voitto Pulkkinen.

Posting of videos from Hailuoto-Marjaniemi Osprey webcams to any website is prohibited.

The rights of all the images from Hailuoto-Marjaniemi Osprey webcams are reserved by the original copyright owner, Voitto Pulkkinen.

Oulunsalo, Finland 16th March 2010

Voitto Pulkkinen
Studio V.Pulkkinen
-----------------------

in the above i've emphasized the important points with bold text: pictures are allowed, videos are not allowed, and he strongly wishes that his copyright is clearly shown/mentioned with the pictures.

This is a great improvement from the previous, and i think we should be very happy and grateful for Voitto Pulkkinen's permission to capture and post Hailuoto pictures.

The camera will be open in the first week of April.

PLOUGHBOY, thank you for all the work and time you gave to make this happen. Both the cam viewers and the ospreys will benefit from your efforts. Now I will buy video time, something I would not do last year on principle, and follow the video agreement.

I know our BCAW members will follow the guidelines for posting that are in the agreement.

:loveshow: Thanks Ploughboy . . . that's great news! And yes, we'll add the copyright notice to any pictures from the cam that we post here.

Appears that cam owners are now charging $38 USD to watch cam for the season.

If you go to cam website and click on "video" you'll get the information. Can someone confirm that what I am understanding is for real? (And, not totally unexpected.)
