Kitten, this is the reply I received Re: the injured wing.

"Yes. It came from the nest with a wing fracture.  It spent some time at a Raptor Care Clinic where the wing was splinted and then came to us.  The longer we can give the bird time to build muscle strength and flexibility before we release it the better.  We have some concern about its feathers because of the way the wing is held. The feathers rub on the ground and branches and that makes the wing appear to be even worse. "

JOEL

These pics are from this morning, after I emailed them. The osprey was on the floor and tried to fly back to the perch, but couldn't make it and got hung up as you can see. It then dropped back down to the floor and went to the cage door where it remained for some time. In the last pic you can clearly see the primaries are in very poor condition, a very bad situation. Feathers, as you know don't heal, they need to molt to be replaced.

I'm going to email them again and suggest they use straw, and/or wood shaving bedding on the floor and add a second lower perch. Maybe they have a reason for not doing that, but it won't hurt to suggest it.

SusanE found this Osprey cam in September on her vacation in Wyoming. The cam is located in Wilson, WY at the Teton Raptor Center. This is a great site for all raptors. They do great, amazing work. The osprey's had migrated and the cam off when Susan brought it to my attention, but I've checked into the site, I can't wait for April.

I don't know if Susan posted this site in the falcon topics, if not check it out. They put little video cameras on falcons, the videos are amazing. They have a great rehab operation.

I'll put this cam and site in the Osprey Topics for 2011
