The cam is back on as of April 14.

Here's an image posted by BET on the Hancock forum:
Image

BET reported that "They (Enmax) cleaned out the nest so we will have the opportunity to watch the nesting process from scratch for the first time. Maybe even get to see a mating." In past years the cam generally hasn't been live until later in the season, so it will indeed be interesting to watch the earlier phases at this nest.

Oh - they're hoping to have sound this year!

BETH....wonderful pics :thumbup EGG :clapegg:

Don't worry about the "blue plastic"...it could be cloth. Ospreys often line their nests with plastic, paper, cloth..... In a perfect world...moss, seaweed, grass..

If you look back at this nest..4/28.. very likely drafty...ospreys so clever, hope they get the liner in place...eggs need to be warm all around :loveheart2:

Plastic would be sad BECAUSE IT'S PLASTIC TRASH!!! WE CAN DO BETTER!!!!

Blog info...May 19, 2010

Last week we had numerous reports from concerned osprey cam watchers who were keenly observing a black plastic bag that the male osprey had brought to the nest. Sadly, plastic bags are an abundant reality in our river landscape and ospreys continue to select them to line their nests. The female appeared slightly stressed by her placement of the bag which allowed it to move in the wind and periodically covered her two eggs.

A decision was made to remove the bag before a third egg was laid. Zoo Curator Bill Dubreuil working in conjunction with the ENMAX team made short work of the removal with the female just a few wingbeats away. She returned to the nest and to incubation within moments of the bag's removal. Just one more reason for us all to reduce, reuse, recycle and rethink our consumption or perhaps participate in the next river clean up. The ospreys will lay up to 4 eggs-and they should be hatching in mid-June.

So glad things went smoothly on this
I'm always trying everything I can to pound it into my grandkids heads how important it is to recycle
I hate to admit it was MY kids that had to teach me and it started about 20 years ago with Ducks,Geese and plastic soda can rings and now some say I am out of control
but I don't think we can ever be out of control when it comes to helping the inviroment

Oh no  here I go I'll stop now

Now looks like a double header for today :egghatch: :egghatch: Pics from 7:45 east coast USA time. The first egg laid, on 5/9, if all dates are correct, will not hatch.

June 22, 2010 - News from the Nest!

Wonderful news, we have 2 hatchlings on the nest. I’d received several e-mails from webcam watchers worrying whether the eggs were viable after being covered by the black plastic bag in the first days of gestation. I’m sure that we’re all quite relieved knowing that nature has prevailed. Mum and dad have been trading places on the nest, and seem to be coping expertly. Ospreys are fully fledged in about 50 days-it is a joy to see young birds grow and thrive with such a high degree of parental care.

I’m not sure if you’ve been following the saga of Lady, the 25 year old osprey in Scotland. The story is very touching and a visit to the website might be in order if you’re interested in learning more.

Several of you have been speculating on the black object in the nest next to the hatchlings. Over the years the ospreys have selected police hazard tape, a toque, a mitten and the infamous black plastic bag to place in the nest. The jury is still out, but the black object is being interpreted by some here as a
*black under-wire bra.
