Rob's going to tag two of the juvies on 7/12. He tried to tag the adult male in May, but the male wouldn't come to the nest...he got the female, so he banded her.

Gerard, on the Hancock Forum posted this update from Iain MacLeod

An eventful morning at Ayers. The first to fly this morning was Pemi (the male). His first flight was not good and he ended up crash landing on the dam and then falling in the water. Thankfully the barge crane crew was there and rescued him in their little boat. PSNH called me and I headed down there right away. Pemi was on the shore, wet and tired. He perched in the sun and we waited for him to try again. While I was waiting, Saco took a nice flight and after a couple of nice loops above the dam, she landed on the larger crane (not the floating one). Work was stopped as everyone admired her. After nearly half an hour I gave them the okay to gently move the crane to encourage her to fly to a better spot. She enjoyed the ride back and forth for a while and then took another nice strong flight over the dam circled below the dam and landed on a the far side of the dam structure (a relatively safe spot). She is flying well and I have no concerns about her. As the data suggests, I don't think this was her first flight. Both adults were in the area watching the action. Pemi finally tried again, but he was so low on shore that he could not get any lift and he ended up in the river again. The workers from the barge crane were immediately over there and I was able to grab Pemi and get him off the shore.

We cannot put him back in the nest as the third chick will certainly flush and likely end up in the water too. So after letting him dry off for a while, I brought him over to the far side of the dam which is quieter and has a nice slope to launch him off. I waited for a nice wind gust and launched him. He flew quite well, went half way across the dam and tried to land on the barge crane. He was not able to get a grip and slipped off and into the water again. Once again the crew was there to grab him. I decided that that was enough for today and took him back with me to the Science Center for the night. I can feed him up for the next day or so and then we will try bringing him back on Friday morning.

Never a dull moment with this project.

The construction crew and all the PSNH staff were wonderful and saved this guys bacon three times.
