New Jersey Osprey Return

The osprey have returned to the Great Egg Harbor bay area of NJ. I've noticed over the last few years that the first ones show up like clockwork, almost to the day. That's pretty amazing considering how far they fly to get here. Two days after the first day of spring the first bird arrives. Within a week almost all of the many nests have a bird on them. The population has really taken off (no pun intended) around here since the mid 80s. It has gotten to the point where the fishermen attribute the decline in the flounder population to the abundance of osprey. I doubt they have that much of an impact. Anyway, its a sure sign of spring.

does the maurice river run into the harbor? there is a webcam showing a jersey osprey with chicks but i am not sure where in jersey this is http://www.terrapincove.org/main.html

view from the camera is tack sharp and up close and personal as this capture shows

I read your post back in June George and checked the camera out ... it is wonderful... but bad news today. Barbara posted a video on Facebook ... they were attacked by a GHO. Two of the three chicks were taken. :sosad

Thanks for the ID on the nest, PattiO...I couldn't figure out where it was (sorry George..I must have missed your June post)....so very tragic...and warning to others...video is just heartbreaking...

I wonder where the parents were?
