I just checked the site.
In the news menu it says: 19-09-2011:
    Camera has been removed.
And at the right side of the center picture is written:
Osprey webcam of Hailuoto in Marjaniemi (http://www.saaksi.fi), Finland, is closed. Since 2006 the camera has had about 6,5 million watchers from 130 countries.
Does this mean we will have no live webcam from this nest anymore ? ? ? I sure hope I'm wrong . . .

DEF, I believe this is just a translation/communication issue. I checked Ploughboy's forum, he has a 2012 start page for Hailuoto, no mention of the cam being removed.

There are some messages in the Finnish (?) topic about this cam that make me believe the cam will not be online again. Voitto Pulkkinen has removed everything.
There is talk about the Marjaniemi counsel taking over, but it seems that is more wishful thinking.

To lose this wonderful cam would be tragic.

Time will tell.

In the meantime, the 9 minute plus video on the cam website is beautiful and extraordinarily well orchestrated.

REMEMBER KOO? I ALWAYS WILL.

DEF and MaryG

I sent a message to Ploughboy asking about the cam..if anyone would have the answer, it would be Ploughboy.

Hope he has time to post an answer for you. The best I can do.

Ploughboy sent me this reply. :valthumb:

"I have discussed with Voitto Pulkkinen couple weeks ago and he promised that Hailuoto osprey web cam will be online also next summer but without this "live cam" feature."

Sry my bad explanation,,,,, afaik there would be only one webcam where picture update interval is few seconds and live video stream is not available anymore.

Hi

Unfortunately the Hailuoto osprey nest has fallen down in heavy autumn storm last year but it will be fixed soon. :suchdrama:

Let's hope that everything goes well and we can watch successful nesting also this season.

The picture is taken this afternoon. Nest is a rugged-looking, but not for long!"

Great news, thanks for the heads-up! Now lets hope the Osprey will choose to rebuilt the old nest, most of it has come down in a storm last fall.
