I got an email from Bob DeCandido (Birding Bob) and a reply from Chris Nadereski.

***
Hi Bob -

Thought you might be interested to hear a peregrine falcon just flew into a window on the 26th floor of 2 World Financial Center ... it had a green band on the left leg -- it's still out there recovering but I think it's going to be alright -- it's been testing it's wings a little bit ... it has very reddish brown striping on the chest ... and I almost brought my camera today!

****
Thanks for forwarding this information. Sounds like it could be a breeding female with the brown streak. The brown could be from incubating the reddish-brown eggs. Please keep us posted. Chris

And here is an update from Bob four hours later:

***
Here is the latest (cut to the chase: it was a fledgling and Bobby Horvath came over to get it):

And from Bob's contact on the 26th floor at 2 World Financial Center:
Well Bobby came and the bird flew off after being out on the balcony about 4 hours -- he said it was a fledgling -- it's definitely injured and disoriented but flew up - possibly to the roof ...

From me:

I'll be stopping by Water St on my way to and from Jersey City. It's tough to see the birds in that area. Too many buildings, ledges, nooks and crannies. I just hope someone picked up the bird if it didn't fly out by itself. And I got a stern warning from Barbara Loucks at NYDEC to not touch the bird. I did email her that I knew that.

It is a fledgling, but I have no more information about the bird. I drove by on my way to Jersey City this morning, but it is impossible to see anything on top the World Financial Center. I did see the ledges. Too bad the rehabber wasn't smarter about trying to get to the bird. Or, he could have just left it. The parents would have fed it. Many times, the bird just needs to rest and recover on its own. The good thing is that it could get up higher on its own. Leads me to believe it will probably recover on its own, too. Our Jersey Girl did.

Dang! Know i know why 55 Water st was a familiar address! My late uncle was a VP of SIAC and had his office there. SIAC now has been taken over by the NYSE when they bought the 1/3 intrest in the Securities Industry Automation Corp.

Crud, had i know of this great couple, i may have been able to get a very up close and personal view of the scrape itself courtesy of my uncle. DANG DANG DARN DARN DARN!

Well, get ME up there!! A good time for a visit is between May 15 - June 6. Like, I am ready to go, but only on the weekends and early in the day.

I would if my uncle were still alive, then i could have organized a visit for a whole group of falconholics. I i wish he had told me about this prize fringe benefit so i could perhaps take advantage of some nepotism
