Red Girl just left the nest box, and I'm about to leave for 4-5 hours. I hope to hear some good news when I return.

So far today, Red Girl has stayed on the eggs much longer - and she seems much calmer - than yesterday. I can't help but speculate that she and the new male came to an understanding last night: If he would supply her with food at the nest box and help out with any chicks that hatch, she'd accept him as her new mate. (That's probably wishful thinking on my part, but I'd like to think that's what happened.)

Kim - So glad you could move to the conference room at work this morning!

I watched Red Girl flying around for a while, circling higher and higher when she first left the box. Haven't seen any falcons for a while now.

An hour ago Red Girl was perched in the sun, two bays to the left of the one with the nest box. She took off and started soaring in front of the building, drifted one block northeast over the intersection of 12th and West Streets, and circled up until I lost her in the blue. Maybe trying to make contact with her boyfriend.

On the sidewalk below the nest box is the head of one manifestation of our host's avatar. Sorry, Catbird. That's the first time I've seen one as prey in seven years of looking. A more male-sized than female-sized prey item, so the courtship feeding theory put forth above looks plausible.

Also, an explosion of mourning dove feathers this morning on my driveway where I throw seed . But that's twelve miles away, so I'll blame that event on a Cooper's hawk.

She was gone for a while but is back on the building again. Still no other falcons. I'm so disappointed. I thought for sure we'd be seeing him.

Does not mean he is not around KIm.
Remember Columbus. How elusive the new male was, at the beginning. Maybe flying around and getting acquainted with territory.

I ahve no doubt , you will be rewarded for your diligence :girlluv:

I don't see any falcons but I see Greg out walking around looking for dead bird body parts. LOL! I also see Craig photographing the nestbox.

Very sizable article in the Wilm. News Journal today, about the Falcon story here. Let me see if I can come up with the link.

Red Girl is perched on the nest box ledge. Craig and I were watching her from the roof of the lot across 11th Street. No sign of the male. Craig had looked in on the box earlier in his visit. He almost took the eggs and will be back to do so in a week or two.

The only new dead bird body part I found was a secondary feather of a yellow-billed cuckoo on the roof of the lot diagonally (east) across from the nest. Craig already had found the beak of the same bird. First one of the year; Great Caesar's Ghost! Either that or the new guy is learning some of Caesar's old tricks.

Craig had the same question that Reenie did yesterday about the age (plumage) of the new male. I really wasn't close enough to see but Kim and I can keep the question in mind if he shows up again and gives us another chance.

Very interesting Greg. Thanks to you, Kim & Craig. Hope he shows today. Also, will be interested in the egg situation. I agree about taking 3 months off, at this time of year. How silly we are!!! Or passionate!!!!!
