Morning, SBG! I'm hoping that today's the day that Spirit returns to the nest box ledge and saunters down to the ledge cam for a close-up. That would really make my day!

I think that would make ALL our day's Catbird. I just can't get past this. It is on my mind constantly. What ignorance and sickness is all around us.

Thank you Catbird for the early sighting of Trooper on the ledge and SGB for the picture of perhaps Spirit on the other ledge - that would make my day to see Spirit on the ledge - she is very capable of landing there.

I have to go to renew my driver's license today - that would make me extremely happy to have my new license. I know that I will be downtown on Sunday - there is a daylilly show on Sunday and I am showing a few of my daylillies at the show and I have to drive through downtown to get to the show at the Conservatory.

I saw the news broadcast about Scout and many people at work have said they either saw the newspaper articles or the news broadcast about Scout - this will make more people aware of our falcons and perhaps we can get more people to fledge watch that way for next year or even to watch out for Trooper and Spirit this year. It brought tears to my eyes watching the video. It will take a long time for us all to get over her loss and for Clementine's loss - I think it's amazing how the two were related - Juanita is amazing. I would so love to meet and talk to her one day. I wish that she would put all of her information into a book.

Good morning. So happy to see Trooper and Spirit. I think the guy that killed our beautiful Scout will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. There was a guy that worked on a dairy farm just north of Columbus that was shown beating cows and calves in a video on youtube. He was charged with 12 misdemeanors and a felony weapons charge. The broom, I believe, will be considered a deadly weapon. Here in the midwest we do not put up with animal cruelty.

BTW - I bought one of the hats from the ODNR web site - the falcon hat of course - and I could not believe it - it was delivered in like 2 days. It's a great way to support our falcons.

Haven't watched this site as closely as two others, but I have something to say here. In Wilmington, DE, we lost two Falcon's this year. (No human faulting). When the female was sitting on her 4 eggs, she depended on her mate to help feed her and take his turn on the eggs. When HE went missing, she began to change her behavior (looking around alot , instead of being in a catatonic state on the eggs). She was very visually disturbed by his abscence. Soon she had to save herself and gave less time to the eggs. They did not hatch. My point is..... It takes two Falcon's to raise the young and they do suffer being alone. Tell me these beautiful creatures don't feel !!!!!! All of nature feels and communicates. How lucky we who know it,- ARE !!!!

ooooooooooooooooo, great idea, Rose...I may just go buy one too...

Faith, nice to see you over here...I have no doubt that these birds feel, they miss their mates, they care for their young. They may not grieve as long as we do, but I feel sure they grieve in their own way..

Several years ago, I had a bluebird nest in one of my boxes. The female disappeared (thankfully, with only eggs in the box) The male sat in a tree near the box for 4-5 days straight and called and called, periodically flying to the box to see if she was inside...it broke my heart...I knew what he was doing...he was trying to find her. He eventually moved on..

SGB, I know how hard it is to watch that. That was brought about by nature. What is hard about this situation, IT DIDN'T NEED TO HAPPEN.

Yes, I know that...my point was that the bluebird certainly displayed "grief", confusion, and devotion to his nest and mate..

This most definitely didn't need to happen here...if it weren't for some insensitive $@*%!* person with a broom, Scout would still be with us...which, if you think about it, would have altered all the events that followed..Trooper may not have connected with Clementine, Clementine would not have come to the ledge, Clementine probably would not have died...

Hello - I am new to posting but have been following you for this whole nesting season :(.

Please excuse me as I am still trying to familarize myself with all the goodies and procedures for posting and using the forum.

It has been a roller coaster ride, with so much devastation, to such a beloved and wonderful Peregrine Site as the Rhodes Tower. At times it becomes almost overwhelming to continue but these splendid Peregrines just gets into your soul as well as your heart too.

Registering to post was easy because of all the 'compassion', 'caring' and 'interaction' among all of you. As a group I call you "The Supreme Peregrine Lovers". Bless you all, for your time - your pictures - your videos - your lineage charts and all your valuable time given to keep us updated.
It is appreciated.

Since S2 and Pa I didn't think I could take it anymore (just watching daily) but Scout captured me yet again. She is flying high with Orville and hopefully sending back good Karma for Troopers next laison and mate.

To make a long story short, the coincidence of One Death after another, seems beyond comprehension.

Thank you all :bravo

:hi: KeKen....so great to see you...and thanks for making your first post here with us...please let us know if you have questions with anything...

I know what you mean...All the tragedy that year at De Mortel... so hard to watch...and such a miracle with how it turned out!!!

Scout stole my heart as well...and to know that she died because of an action of a human just breaks my heart and infuriates me all at the same time.

i am really sorry if my comments offend anyone here. i know this is an extremely emotional issue for all, me included, but i want to say some things:

keep in mind the information in the media so far is only hearsay. with this being an official investigation the authorities cannot release any info otherwise the investigation could be compromised. so all of the info out so far could or could not be true. the paper received a "tip" and only printed the info from their tipster. someone could have been making the whole thing up! at best what was in the paper certainly is not the whole story. there are always 2 sides to every story. i have complete confidence that the state and federal agents take the allegations very seriously and will work to uncover all of the facts. it is the job of the investigators to get to the bottom of what really happened and make a ruling based on the facts, not emotion.

the only good thing about this story coming out public this early in the investigation is if other people will step forward with information. let us hope so.

on the other side of the coin it is the job of the media to fire up everyones emotion by reporting what they believe to be facts. that is how they sell papers and get people to watch their stations. it is a much different angle. and has certainly worked to get everyone fired up and jumping to conclusions and judging without all of the facts. with that being said, i think the letters are an awesome showing of everyone's passion and enthusiasm. i think though, that the effort would have more effect if not sent from a knee jerk of the heart strings only based on a few details printed in the paper from an anonymous tip. wait until the whole story is revealed and then if there is a need to speak out do so then.

regarding posting signs and posters etc. i believe it best to let the state decide what is best to do. obviously falcons have been nesting in cities all over the midwest for a long, long time --has there ever been an issue before? columbus only has 1 nest! what about all of the cities that have multiple nests?

as i said, this in an emotional issue for me, too. for my self-preservation i am trying really, really hard to take a deep breath, step back and let the professionals sort things out. it is so easy to jump on a bandwagon of negativity. i like the idea of whoever posted what happy thoughts they had for the day...i'm sorry i went back several pages but could not find it easily...but great idea. concentrate on positive things and keep watch for spirit! i know she is doing well. i hope that we see her on the ledge soon. and i am glad cooler weather in columbus for her. it was great to see trooper.

thank you everyone, for being free to share your thoughts and feelings on this forum. thank you for letting me share my thoughts and feelings also. :girlluv:

Oh My Goodness! KeKen that is the MOST beautiful quotation on your message. Can you give me the origin. I would like permission to embroider it on a wall hanging for my own use.

Thank you for pointing that out, Faith...I totally missed keken's quote...it really is beautiful...

...and thank you for your Words, Poppy..I was not offended in the least...I do think we need to step back and breathe...(btw, Susan's post is the one you are referring to, I believe)..there are times when I can be very objective, and there are other times where my imagination and emotions get the best of me...

my turn to play devil's advocate...it has been speculated on this forum and several others that Clementine could have been shot. Now, I don't know about Columbus, but if anyone had fired a gun in downtown Atlanta, not only would it have been the leading story on the evening news, but that person would have created such a man-hunt, that we would have been talking about it for days..

Just some more food for thought..

We are just going to have to take a wait and see attitude about Scout's death until the investigation is complete and the results are made public..

...but I do appreciate the fact that we all feel like we can share how we're feeling and post our ideas and thoughts...mine seem to change by the hour.. :crazysun:

Thanks Poppy for your comments. You're right, we don't know all the facts, which is why I've been 'holding back' .

I tend to jump of the deep end sometimes, but so far, I've always been allowed to say what I think without getting kicked off the forum, although I might have come close once or twice. :-)

It's nice to have a place to come and share our intense emotions regarding our birds. I've actually change my mind/opinion after reading someone else's comments before, so keep them coming.

Thank you Skybluegirl, Beth, LJames & Faith for the welcoming.

Faith, that saying has been with us for a long time and one can find it now on the Michael Bridge Site, too. Whether he authored it or not I'm not sure so I don't attribute it to him. His site is 'words of wisdom' and can be located here:

Yes we have it in a wall hanging also. ENJOY
