I'm so sorry Antilogical. You had a special connection to this young girl that is priceless. Thank you and all the volunteers at the Rehab Facility.
They truly give, with all of their heart!

Antilogical,
What can I say but I am so so sorry.
You try to keep human emotions out of it but you just can't when it comes
to these wonderful falcons

I am so sorry to hear this sad news. I wonder if the parents were still around at release. Its pretty tough on young ones learning how to navigate all those buildings, especially if they were going it alone. Really tough on the rehabbers who brought her back, but you can't take care of them once they are released :-(

A big hug from me, Antilogical, and to others as well who watched these falcons. What a sad loss.

I am sorry to hear about little Yellow Girl. Of course I was sad to hear of Green Boy previously too. Getting stuck in that chimney structure like he did and couldn't get out, well it just broke my heart at the time I read it. And little Yellow lucky enough to survive that, rehabed, and set free again, only to still die. Every death is hard and seemingly senseless to me. I can't imagine what it is like for those who rehab these beautiful babies. As much as I'd like to volunteer and work with animals, my heart is just not stong enough for it. I am so thankful to those folks who can do it.

The parents at the Cathedral Of Learning (Dorothy & E2) & at the Gulf Tower (Dori/Mary-Cleo & Louie) don't migrate - they're around all winter. Interestingly, Yellow girl was found much closer to the Gulf Tower than to the COL where she was born.

Volunteering at the wildlife center certainly has it's ups and downs. I try to stay focused on the successes, but it's really sad when we lose one - both before or after release....

I am so sorry anti logical. I know how hard ti must be. Hopefully she was not considered an intruder at gulf tower.

It is hard some days to remember successes when we have such a grueling year.

big hugs to you :hearts:

From Kate's blog this morning; sightings of Dorothy and E2,

Peregrines in November

"The Pitt peregrines have been active too.

A week ago Karen Lang and I saw two peregrines perched on the Cathedral of Learning’s lightning rod for several hours. E2 faced north, Dorothy faced south to keep their eyes on all of Oakland.

Last Friday at lunchtime we were treated to a closer look when E2 flew “kak-ing” over Fifth Avenue, pursuing a threat so minor that we never saw it, but the best was yet to come.

Yesterday we saw E2 flapping hard, carrying a huge pigeon back to the Cathedral of Learning for Dorothy’s lunch. The wind was so strong and the prey so heavy that he couldn’t gain enough altitude to reach the dining ledge so he circled near the building, called several times in a loud voice and landed briefly on a window unit around the 20th floor. He must have been calling Dorothy because she followed when he flew with the prey to St. Paul’s Cathedral."

I clicked the link for this cam in error & it looks like they're not using UStream next season. Guess they are setting up their own system, which is fine with me, because last year being able to get these cams was hit & miss for me & many others!

Kates blog

Much to my amazement a pigeon has been frequenting the peregrine falcon nest at
the University of Pittsburgh. The Aviary’s snapshot camera took his picture as he
moved around the nest on November 15th and 19th.

The resident peregrines, Dorothy and E2, are at the Cathedral of Learning every
day but not often at their nest. Apparently they aren’t paying attention to this
corner of their domain.

Or maybe they’re in a timeshare agreement and this pigeon bought the
third week of November?

Who knows? He just better be careful not to be at the condo when the real owners
return or they’ll have him for dinner.

Click on the pigeon’s picture to see Dorothy and E2 at the nest earlier this month.
