These Peregrine Falcons are well-known in Columbus. They are in both print and TV news. After Scout's death, I hope information and cautions about falcons will be sent to owners of tall buildings, window washers, and all maintenance workers.
These windows washers, below, on the Rhodes State Office Tower may have been unaware of the nest box. However, the windows were washed in mid-August, well after the fledge. I'd like to think they knew and were just taking a quick look. If they knew, they should have had a couple of red umbrellas with them, similar to the ones used when the young birds are being banded. Just to be on the safe side, should the adults return and defend their site.
Window Washers Make a Quick ExitThis video was made with a smile, but it has serious undertones. Those who work where these falcons are present should be educated. How cruel to swat a bird with a broom and send her to her death on the pavement below! So unnecessary. The guy could have simply gone inside and reported the falcon to someone in the building.
Yes, I'll write a letter, too. I will send it email and a copy by snail mail. People can be overwhelmed by email and not read every letter. I urge all of you to send both.
If I'm repeating myself, I'm sorry, but I'm just so p*ssed off about this event. I've seen enough injured and dead birds to last me several lifetimes. When someone intentionally kills or injures a bird, it makes me sad and angry.
