I've made a shorter version of DEF's movie, by changing the frame rate from 14 fps to 30 fps.

You can download this one from http://yokoz.nl/slechtvalken/videos/Wil ... 100315.mpg

Arjen, you are a gem! Thank you :cheer

Sad news about the original female, but at least we now know for sure what happened to her. The harshness of life in the wild, never easy to watch or accept.
But she died as a proud and fearless Peregrine Falcon, as she was meant to be.
Could it be that this new female had a partner with her and he now has to battle for the right to the nest location? We know the new female has claimed it already.
It's even possible that the female gets into a fight with one of the males, the one she rejects. I remember the video Froona posted of the fight in the nest box in Brighton, last year.
The resident female was engaged in a ferocious battle with a male who turned out to be her former mate. He was injured earlier and had been in rehab for a couple of weeks. In the meantime a new male had begun courtship and when the original male was released and returned to his territory, the female already had bonded with the new guy and kicked her old mate out.

:omg :omg :omg

Incredible...So much going on with this nest and so confusing...thanks for all the great coverage...took me a while to get through the events of today..I am so, so sorry to hear about the resident female..I do hope they can figure out how she died..just so tragic to hear...and poor little resident male..trying to defend his box without his mate..I sure do wish we could transport one of those males to Columbus..I do hope everyone is ok...

It should start downloading to your computer. Then you can play it in Windows MediaPlayer.

That's what I thought...maybe I'm not giving it enough time to download...my WMP just keeps saying "connecting"...and that's it...I'll be more patient...(but I used all of that up at work today...)

How smart you are Arjen.

Really sorry to hear about the female being found dead, it's always very sad to hear these things. That's an interesting thought on the current female having a mate already. Would they have arrived to this area together or maybe he came around after she established her territory and she bonded with him rather than the resident male. It's very confusing.

Well, we can't control what will happen. We are just observers.

SGB, it took a few minutes to get the video.

After the fight this morning two males and a female were in the air together on and off at least until 1:00 pm EDT. The males (the two smaller ones) sparred some but nothing that looked metabolically stressful or dangerous. At least twice the smallest bird left the other two, once to perch on the nest box (where he was eventually joined by the female) and once to perch on another building which the female approached but then flew off to her own perch, where the other, larger male dove at and flew around her. At the risk of anthropomorphism, I think that the female enjoyed the attention. I certainly did not see her try to hurt or repel either of the males, although both occasionally dove at her in what looked like courtship display.

All is quiet so far this morning, and I'm hoping it stays that way!

In the meantime, the news of yesterday's fight in the nest box is sure getting around. It's the lead item in today's news on the littlebirdie.com . . .

I was just looking back over the images and I don't think I can definitively say when the last time the Wilmington female was in the box. I think it may have been 2/25 though. I posted some other shots in March saying I thought it was the female but it could have been the male. It's very possible that the intruder killed our female on 3/1 when Greg posted about the chase between the three birds that he saw...

Just now the female and a male were in the box, bowing. Female left and male stayed behind, moving around the box a little. I saw a RED band on the right leg.
Busy with the grand kids today, so not a lot of time for the web cam(s) but I did record this visit. I'll see if I can post a few screen shots that show the male's band. Later! :waveht:

This picture is from 10:57 this morning and it looks to me like the band is black over red on the left leg of the male. Does anyone else see that or is this just wishful thinking on my part?

Someone zoomed in and it is black over red on the band on the left leg so this should be our male! :)

A male was just eating something in the box (4:15, EDT). Eventually he looked up and jumped out.

I looked out the window and saw him rise out in front of the buliding, then follow another falcon (the female?) ne on 11th street, out of sight.
