Finally "caught" a Falcon in the nest this morning. First time. Hope things have settled down now for the pair. Nice having your reports Greg.

My pleasure, Faith. My perspective on the street tracks what people are seeing on the camera: from Tuesday on it does seem that things have settled down. I've seen single falcons several times and a male and female together twice, but not a noisy threesome like in the hours following the males' fight Monday morning. Here's hoping that the male and female now in residence continue to hit it off and breed successfully, undisturbed by further contestants.

They were just in the box together. Looked like the male with the red band on the left leg. :?

Well it was hard to tell for sure.

Thanks Kim and ljames! I was just about to post a similar picture.

Weren't they cute? They both seem to be pretty cautious still . . . it's taking awhile for them to move closer together.

Yeah, it looked more like a standoff than a courtship. They were like, I guess we have to be friends if we both want this box.

Seems they will have to get more comfortable with each other and the nest. No canoodling here so far !!!Maybe other than the nest site. Hope so.

Do falcons normally canoodle in the nestbox? :)

They just had a long bowing session! I thought for sure they were going to do something else since they were moving around so much but nothing... sigh

I saw this male and the previous female mate on the roof of the Brandywine (nest site) Building once a year or two ago. Another guy in the office saw the same thing back in 2003. I don't have enough experience watching nest sites up close the way web cams permit to know if falcons usually "take it outside" or not.

From what I've seen, they want to be on the edge of something, so it wouldn't be in the nestbox--maybe on the ledge....

Maybe the male needs to take the courtship feeding to a higher level. The menu today seems to have been mourning dove again. Bird hunters assure me that they're delectable, but they might seem kind of meat and potatoes to the female by now. French cuisine might be more exciting; with all this warm weather the male ought to be able to find a woodcock or two passing through, and treat the lady to la becasse.

I agree Nancy. I've never seen falcons canoodling inside the box that I can remember. Barn owls, however, are like an x rated movie in their private box ;)

That is one very large female...wow! Just confirming the bands on her...is it red and black and the right and green on the left?

I believe it's red tape over the federal band on the right and black over green on the left. I'm very curious as to where this female came from! I guess we probably won't find out until banding day though.

The courtship looks more promising every day, but they sure do seem to be taking their time getting acquainted. I was hoping to see them move closer and touch beaks. Falcons are always so sweet when they do that!

It could be that this new female is from Quebec and is holding out for a French delicacy. Perhaps as Greg said, she's waiting for la bécasse before making a full commitment to the relationship. ;)

The two lovebirds were in the nestbox bright and early this morning! They didn't get very close to each other though...

Nice catch, Kim. It's looking more promising every day now for this pair!
