She didn't stay long - she's gone already!

I'm making the same observation as I did yesterday--I don't see the red tape that normally shows up so well on the cam, so I wonder if its actually Red or maybe the male?

That one picture looked like an unbanded leg - long stretch of yellow, like Trooper in Columbus. Maybe it is the new male!

Somebody was just in the upper corner, then just before I posted this pic, it hopped up on the ledge & is gone.

This is driving me crazy. Wish we could see more. Well, we know the eggs are lost. If I wasn't so busy today I would have gone down to the roof top. I probably would have been blown off.! Real busy tomorrow too, from early morn. on. So I'll say Happy Mothers Day to all now. Hopefully Red Girl has a mate for sure????

Catbird, what do you think of the feathers on the bird there?

Any wisdom in the group whether it's better for the future if the eggs are removed ASAP? Craig almost did so yesterday. I wish he had; he works 100 miles away in Annapolis so he can't come up every day. I think it's got to be Craig (or his deputy) because unhatched eggs are saved and tested for contaminants.

I can send this question to my biologists if you like Greg. Since there was a chance of her reclutching, it probably would have been the right thing to do. You might ask him about using a local biologist or rehabber who can probably recover them. They will probably want to send them in for testing.

My little peon vote is to remove the eggs. Red's interest now appears to be elsewhere (and hopefully, with the male)

I was just reading one of Mark Nash's reports from 2007 (he was talking about a clutch failure at the Burlington nest site) and he stated that he didn't feel a reclutch would occur until the other eggs were "consumed"...so from that, I'm taking that the eggs need to be out of the nest in order to reclutch in THIS box...his report implied a reclutch could occur elsewhere...but removal of the eggs was needed in order for the reclutch to occur at the same spot...

Now, of course, this is just one person's opinion...but it makes sense..

I just saw somebody at the top corner of the picture, too. Have looked at that one picture from earlier today, and didn't think I could see bands, either. I guess it would be the right thing to do to remove the eggs, but that's going to be a heartbreaker. Can remember how excited I was to read that Red just laid her first egg. Seems like only yesterday.

And they are such beautiful eggs too. Well, it was not to be.

I don't know anything about reclutches, but the new female in Pittsburg laid her eggs right there where the other female's eggs were and has been sitting on all of them, but of course, different mothers. My feeling is that it's propbably best to remove them, but it will be sad.

You are right, jane...I remember when it was discovered that it was Red...its so rare to know what happens to any of the juvies we watch and fall in love with...but to actually have one show up in a place with a cam and then lay that first egg....just amazing...so it will be heartbreaking if/when they are removed...but she's strong and young...and if anyone is capable of another clutch, its her...of course, would just love to see a male make his appearance in the box...

She's still up there, doing who knows what...probably preening...

I see her in there. You know she showed interest in that corner before, even after the first egg, I was afraid that she would lay the second one in that corner as she was over there so much.
