Great video, Wizzz! I've seen live stream of falcons laying an egg with a view from the front, but I think this is the first one with a view of the falcon's back--interesting to see the muscles working to get the job done! :thumbegg:

Polly tried to incubate the egg a little, she was not too gentle with it...! Roger seemed concerned that she was there as he wanted to come in, but then Spirit came on the perch and now mother and daughter are together, (P in the box, S on the perch, the egg is alone) - no fight!

This is just incredible...I cannot wait to see how this all turns out...seems to be off to a great start...If Polly assumes the "mom's helper" role, you could write a book about this all!!!

someone's on the egg now...I'm guessing its Spirit...

The thing that I did not like about it is Roger seems upset. He was on the egg when Polly scared him away... then tried to come back but she's on his case constantly! Here's a video of what happened when Polly first saw the egg around 1:30 yesterday :

Yesterday night around 6:20 the same thing happened... Roger delivered food to Spirit, then he went to look out for the egg but Polly came in the box and chased him away. This time she did not really seem to care for the egg... Roger came back again to try to check the egg but she was still there and he flew away. Spirit was right by and did not do anything. Maybe when "hard" incubation starts it will be different, I hope because Roger needs to incubate too!!! Or if she's chasing him away she better start incubating...!!!!

Very interesting video, Wizzz--thanks! I did feel sorry for Roger cause he needs to be a part of the nesting process, too. I guess Polly could help keep the egg warm, although I don't know that she would have a brood patch since she didn't lay the egg. I suspect that Spirit will only put up with so much of Polly's bullying Roger before she steps in...

Thanks for that video, Wizzz. It is a bit troubling to me to see this. The pecking order seems to be Spirit, then Polly, then Roger. Very unnatural. Also, aren't hormones what drive the birds to do what they need to do? Would Polly's hormones be triggered like the mating couple? So many questions. To me, Polly's actions looked like they were possessive rather than nurturing to the egg. . . :?
