Wow--what a neat story, Carly! It would be great if Polly would help with this year's chicks!

Thanks Carly !
That's very interesting. I will email them.
Today Polly was in the box twice, both times the parents got her out in no time. Spirit this morning and Roger this afternoon... Different techniques - Spirit just stands in the box and waits for her to leave and Roger comes in and out, waiting for an opening and then he sneaks behind her to sit on the eggs. I think they're all learning - I hope! Besides, Polly was around all day, I saw her chase 4 ducks, but she did not catch one!!

I exchanged emails with the Brighton site - and their situation was different as the young female was only seen for a brief period of the time returning to the nest site... but she did feed the chicks on two occasions.

Again today Polly behaved - or the parents are smarter. She came to the box this morning but Roger got her out quikly. Here's the video from today :

Another excellent video, Wizzz. Thank you so much. Things seem to be working themselves out. It is cool how you switch back and forth between cam views. Very effective!

Thanks for posting your video, Wizzz! Your captions really helped me understand who all the characters were, too! :thumbegg:

Wizzz - Thanks so much for your video! (Besides the falcon subjects, I really liked the French/English titles because I'm trying to learn French.)

I just saw something very neat, but unfortunately it happened so fast that I couldn't get a capture to share with all of you. I was looking at the parent incubating & noticed that he/she was looking up, so I clicked on the outside cam just in time to see a falcon fly over the nestbox. I couldn't tell whether it was Polly or the other parent, but it was really neat to see! :spingirl:

I do check the cam here daily once or twice and read the post daily. I watched forever one day for an egg to be laid, only to realize that it was Polly in there. Didn't really hit me until she sat in the doorway and I got a good look at her tail.
I am hoping that she will come throuh in a big way to help chase away intruders or something, but really what intruder would try to take over a nest with 3 falcons? Maybe she will help catch prey and feed the chicks. Well I hope that I don't see her sitting up in the box getting fed along with the chicks. I know she can be useful in some way. Even though she's a problem, I feel so sorry for her. When she does find her own mate, she will be all set with tons of experience. Thanks to eveyone for keeping the rest of us informed, especially you Wizzz.

I have a slideshow from after 10am there
I mixed the cam views so you could see better what is happening.

I am not sure which adult but Polly is there. she actually bit the adult because she was not going to leave. neither was going to leave. the adult worked its way around and is on the eggs . Polly is now lying in entrance and adult is in the back. this is gong to get very tense in there.

I know how much we all feel for Polly but I am really nervous for the time the chicks hatch. they have to get her in line before then.

I will be posting slideshow in a minute . Having trouble with PB

here is slideshow. I was getting confused with cams and there was a lot more action.

Yeah it was hectic in there, hard to watch really. I sure wish that the adults had actually chosen that other box that was spoken of and just let her have this one.
