Amsterdam, there is a female intruder in the neighborhood. It seems she even entered the nestbox and took a leftover with her.
The eyases have been alone since 17.15 local time, that's what is reported on my forum. :-(

@ Beth: I don't think the "authorities" will interfere, (remember Pa and Ma De Mortel in 2007 ? )

Too dark to see in the nest box...but there was a tad bit of light...I took a pic and lightened it as much as I could...I didn't see anything...but I didn't see a lighter area either which would have been the "chick pile"...so, I'm hoping a parent now has them covered...

I cannot believe the biologists here will not intervene again. Please not another deMOrtel. this appears worse. No adults. Only the one that someone posted.

I am sorry, I cannot watch this again. I jsut have no heart left to see any more suffering

Bev, the policy here in Holland is not to intervene in situations like this.

Although it's heartbreaking, we have to deal with that. :?

I know Arjen, It is just so hard.

I jsut wish that they could see that this is now humane. I f we see something in need in the forest we help it.

I am sure none of them would leave a wounded or starving animal or bird on its own if they ran across one. I guess that is why this is so hard to take in and understand.
