Another day in waiting
Posted on 28-09-2010
Another quiet one today with little to report, except that the roost has been buzzed
by a number of different flying creatures today, somewhat disturbing mum in her gravel
nest.
The odd flock of cockatoos and also galahs had her nervous but they passed
by without incident.

Dad’s been a superb provider and has been in a couple of times with an offer of lunch,
to which mum has taken off in to the trees below to devour (i.e. the branch on the
current website header picture).

At this stage we’re still on target for an expected hatching between 6th and 11th
October.

Bickering, and lunch
Posted on 29-09-2010
Another sunny day in Orange and up the “Concrete Hilton”.
This morning dad was out early catching something to eat.
Lots of calling from their favourite branch down in the trees and each time it
would take a visit to the window to convince mum to fly down and partake of
her victuals.
Image
Breakfast is ready - go get it!
Both adults are combing well for meals, with another changeover on the ledge
this afternoon, dad arriving with a carcass and mum flying back up to grab it off
him and head for the trees! She was back in about 5 minutes on the nest.

Mum just flew off to receive lunch from her partner who’s been very good in keeping up the food supply. We can hear them in the trees calling to each other, each time he returns with food to their favourite branch. Mum flew down and we caught a glimpse of the egg with what appears to be an egg tooth pip in the shell. If this is indeed the beginning then we may expect a full hatching in the next day or so (either that or it was suggested the adults may have painted a happy face on the shell for the camera – thanks John!)

Everyone’s waiting ….
Posted on 05-10-2010
After a long weekend without posts we’re back but so far no further results.
Mum’s up there this morning enjoying the warmth – Orange’s spring weather is
turning out to be much nicer than winter was.
Little other activity to report at the moment. We’re now in the “window” to
expect a hatching but nature will take it’s course so we must wait.

Alcoa Anglesea Peregrine Falcon Webcam

Wednesday October 6, 2010
After much detective work by control room operators, environmental scientists
and our station chemist, the consensus is that Ava and Havoc have nested on the
Power Station this year. The reason for the lack of certainty is that we are unable
to view the location of their nest. The birds have chosen to make their home on
our coal bunkers instead of the cosy nest box provided for them. Although
we cannot see Ava sitting on a nest, evidence leading us to this conclusion
includes the remains of dinner, white wash and the occasional head popping
up over the beam!

thanx for checking the Alcoa site for updates KF

well I just hope they have chosen a safe spot for their juvies - they don't mention being bombed so maybe the new female is less feisty - one thing for sure we ill always have unanswered questions as far as Alcoa is concerned.

Thanks for the update, kittenface. I have forgotten to check there lately. Sure hope Ava and Havoc have found a safe spot for eggs and juvies. "Cosy nest box" -- obviously not or they would have chosen it.

Thanks for the heads up about the article kittenface (which I got a good laugh from).
I had to add this detail from one of the longest loading photos...

Thanks for the update, Kitten. I don't have anything nice to say, so I'll just leave it alone! :x

AWWWThanks for the video links Ferenz.

Mum/Swift is so gorgeous! The videos are short. I don't want to watch for 18 seconds Scott, I'd like to watch for 18 hours!
