To quote CPF's Mark Nash, when chicks are banded at approximately three weeks of age, 600 grams and under is a Boy, 700 grams and over is a Girl. It's the area between that gets questionable, so then you measure the leg thickness.

With that in mind, I gleaned the following from all the postings. I still think Chedoke is a boy. See what you think.

Joseph - hatched 5/6, banded at 25 days, 492 grams, fledged at 44 days.

Henderson - hatched 5/7, banded at 24 days, 746 grams, fledged at 46 days.

Peter - hatched 5/8, banded at 23 days, 525 grams, fledged at 39 days.

Chedoke - hatched 5/10, banded at 21 days, 518 grams, fledged at 49 days.

The administrator has referred to him as "he" and "she" in the same paragraph, so my guess is they just aren't being consistent.

Chedoke is a girl? You know, I thought that she looked kind of big next to the others and to be the youngest. Don't males and females get different size bands? Well, glad to hear that she is ok and will be released and there will be somebody to look out for her too.

The Hamilton Spectator carried an article about Chedoke when she was injured:

Falcon Chedoke injured in crash landing

What goes up sometimes comes down, hard.

The last of four Hamilton Peregrine Falcon chicks to leave their nest atop the downtown Sheraton hotel is in rehab today after a crash landing.

The Hamilton Naturalists club says Chedoke crashed atop the entrance marquee of the Stelco Tower on King Street West, not far above street level Wednesday, damaging one wing.

She was rescued late in the day by Falconwatch co-ordinator Brad Asseltine and 2009 co-ordinator Sandra Davey

The injured bird is now staying at a rehabilitation facility, awaiting x-rays, which may take a few days to obtain.

Audrey Gamble, of the Hamilton Community Peregrine Project, said an x-ray will determine if chedoke suffered a muscle injury or a broken bone.

“She may have hit the glass above the marquee and injured herself.”

Those who examined the bird after rescue say if she did break a bone in her wing it was not a catastrophic break. “We’ll know soon enough,” said Gamble.

Chedoke remained feisty throughout her ordeal on the entrance marquee, visibly annoyed at missing lunch and even putting up a fight when assistance arrived.

An update on Chedoke from the site today:

I'm Comin' Home, I've Done My Time!

July 7, 2010 - Falconwatch Coordinator Brad Asseltine reports: Falconwatch 2010 is being restarted to keep a close eye on Chedoke when she comes back this morning from the rehab facility. The picture at left was taken yesterday. She sure looks ready, doesn't she?

I caught one of the juvies on the ledge about 8:30 p.m. local time - I'm not sure which juvie this is:

July 8, 2010 Update - Around 06:00 today Chedoke made a strong flight from the Sheraton out over King Street and the Art Gallery, then flew to the Standard Life building where she landed pretty well and quickly started looking around for food. Falconwatchers are quite encouraged by her performance.

July 7, 2010, evening - Falconwatch Coordinator Brad Asseltine reports: This morning Chedoke returned home and was released on the roof of the Sheraton Hotel, close to the nest ledge, at approximately 10:50 (image at left). She spent the remainder of the day on the Sheraton's roof testing different perches or trying to beat the heat by hiding in the shade. This afternoon Henderson paid her long lost sibling a visit, during which they were seen touching beaks and getting reacquainted. A short time later the boys dropped in to say hello as well. Today's heat followed by the rains seemed to put a damper on any flying attempts by Chedoke. We did, however, see Peter, Henderson and Joseph, cruising the thermals high into the sky in the mid-day sun and even flying about in the rain.

It's so nice to know that Chedoke is doing well. I remember being so worried about her (then him) in the beginning. I'm so glad the folks there got out again to watch for her. :-)

And the others flying around like little pros.
