It's time to vote on which chick will be the first to fledge, and there's not much time before we'll see (or hear of) the first fledgling's flight. To vote, click the following link:

P.S. Thanks to Kim for suggesting the poll and to Reenie for setting it up!

Thanks Kim for the report this morning and Reenie for setting up the poll. Right now Red Girl and a young one is in the nest eating . The young one is eating part of what RG brought. Up on the ledge they go.! Part of the food is still there. Wow , look at the brownish feathers laying there.

Glad you saw all five this morning, Kim. Have been watching for a while, and saw three chicks in the box, and then one hopped up and vanished on the ledge. Another or the same one hopped back in the box and the feathers were flying everywhere. Two are pancaked in the box right now. Hope the humidity goes away when fledging time gets here.

4 are lounging in the scrape this am at 0900. Guess it is cooler on the gravel of the scrape than it is out on the ledge this morning. Fortunately t storms should move through the philly-wilmington area today from 2 to 8pm to cool things down for them and us too

Wow, all five in the box right now. Four were right together in a huddle, but one has moved to the right side of the picture, and looks like white tape on the leg. One up at the top section of the picture. First time I've seen all five for a LONG time. BIG one looks like it has no bands. Can see them panting. Wish they could be sprayed with some cool water.

90 degrees at the house right now. Hope we cool down soon! Not much action in the back yard either.

I thought for sure Yellow Boy might fly sometime today because he tried to fly/jump up on top of the box this morning! He definitely has that look of determination in his eyes!!! I sure hope he waits until Friday! :)

These are from around 9:20 this morning. First there were three laying down and two standing facing the other direction. Then a few minutes later they were all laying down. LOL

The watch starts tomorrow and unfortunately this isn't a very organized watch. Next year we'll have something organized like you guys do in Harrisburg. I've already been talking about it with someone from DNREC and we're going to meet off season to work out the details.

Four in the nestbox fighting over food!

I'm uploading a video of the four of them in the box. The missing bird is the darker one with just the one little spot of fuzz on his head. I'm kicking myself for not going back in to town tonight!

Loved the video, Kim. Just checked the cam, and the box is empty. Am crossing my fingers, toes, and every possible thing that can be crossed for Red Girl's and CJ's chicks. They certainly have done an outstanding job raising them. Sure wish Wilmington was closer. I think I said that before.

I was noticing this morning that none of them were crying for food. I think these adults have done a great job! Other than the initial scare with the first chick that is! Fortunately that was short lived! :)

I was on the garage roof across the street at 1:00 pm and didn't see or hear the kids. Two sightings of an adult flying by; not sure whether it was Red Girl, CJ or both.

New feathers today: chimney swift, mourning dove, blue jay.

The swift is at least the third for CJ (two last year). Not much meat on a swift for the kids but it shows how fast, agile and opportunistic CJ is.
