Sorry, I was unable to post the body text- I got an error message. This has happened previously so I emailed sgb about it.

This image by Nigel Hobden on 12/29. There is an additional photo. She looks beautiful here, healthy. I hope her discomfort is minimal and lessening. Hang in there girl.

Visitations and appearances
Posted on 07-01-2011

"As you can tell by the lack of new posts it’s been a quiet and “regular” week around the Concrete Hilton. Various appearances by all three peregrines have given us the odd view but generally no further real milestones. Beau, Swift and Solo have all turned up at odd times, briefly.
This morning Beau brought his own breakfast up on to the ledge but then swapped places with Swift, and Solo has appeared on the tower and around the trees (we can tell just by listening!).

Beau arrives with his breakfast
This improving summer weather, with longer dry bits, must be improving their hunting capabilities and will finally give Solo a decent chance to hone her skills."

Thanks for copying that update over for us, Carly! Good news for the Orange falcons, but not for many of the Australian people. :-( It sounds like Solo continues to ignore her disability. I'm glad she's able to fly & play with Beau since she doesn't have siblings to play with.

I like that Nancy, "ignore her disability". I am so grateful that she appears to be doing just that.

Thank you Carly

Trial recording software clips
Posted on 18-01-2011

We’re not long away now from purchasing our new monitoring and recording software package, but in the meantime we’ve been testing our capabilities on a demo version of the package, using our existing old cameras. Typically now that we are running tests there has been little activity on the ledge but we managed to snap these clips for everyone to see. We’re looking forward to improving the quality shortly.
Firstly we have Swift on a whistlestop visit, followed by Beau yesterday morning, seemingly in a hurry to be somewhere else, and this morning we caught Swift on another of her stop-overs. Generally speaking Swift can spend hours up on the ledge, but with this hotter summer weather we’re now slowly moving in to finally there’s little happening during the day, and with the sun behind the Concrete Hilton it’s probably a cool place to be during the day’s heat.
Solo turns up briefly most days but seems to be occupying herself more elsewhere. Every so often we can hear her coming and with a few excited loops of the tower and trees she’s off again.

There are 3 videos, but I only pulled over one. See the others using the Follow Me

The ending is superb!

Go Solo!!!

Thanks for the updates Carly and Mick!!!

The approach to this nest is so different than that of Alcoa's. I'm sure there are a few people at Alcoa who love their falcons, but the falcons here are just plain adored!!! Scott and crew are just so passionate about this project..are we sure this cam really isn't in the US?

Thanks for bringing that info & the videos over for us, Mick! I have a feeling that we will be able to go back to our evening get-togethers next nesting season, but with Orange rather than Alcoa! Yes, the people at this location truly do love their falcons--cheers to them! :toast :cheerlead: :cheer

I think you might be right catwoman. I'm looking forward to it :flirty:

I agree with you and sgb, the folks at Orange seem to have their hearts invested in this family and it's so pleasant to be a small part of.

Cheers to them for sure!

Hard work for Beau

Posted on 25-01-2011
This morning, early on, we caught some photos of a very exhausted Beau when he brought his breakfast up on to the ledge. Using the ledge to return to base with food has begun to happen more often, Swift as much as Beau. Good to see they’re using the tower as a base (great for the Project!). Shortly afterward Beau flew out into the trees but a minute or two later returned to drag breakfast away again. Knowing our Beau he just plain forgot to take it with him the first time!

But for some reason this morning’s efforts appear to have been hard work as Beau arrived (captured in demo video) with prey but utterly exhausted and panting. The temperature wasn’t overly warm, at about 24degC (75degF), but the guess is this time he was taken for quite a chase. In the end he won out, no doubt using the peregrine’s renowned superior maneuverability! At this stage there wasn’t enough left to identify prey type.
