Now they are in a struggle by the column, and the one has headed to the back of the scrape to eat.

I think they both might have a little piece now. Darn, I can't get my pictures to turn out. They are blurry, but Red was so cute there in front of the cam eating, oops he's finished with his piece now and needs to go back and steal some more.

5:05 Dad flew in and went in the scrape, both boys right behind him. I'm guessing while I typed this he took off.

I missed Dad leaving but could see a big bird that I thought was him flying away toward the river (to the right of the screen). But then in the next shot there was Dad coming up for a landing on the stick--from the left. Hmmm.

Hope he's not encouraging them to fledge. But with everyone that's there wouldn't be bad but I don't want to see it.

I am so glad that Red was rescued successfully this morning. He is absolutely beautiful - they both are! Many thanks to everyone involved in rescuing him and returning him safely to the ledge. Love all the great pics which have been posted.

Memories of New Girl

This beautiful falcon is gone much too soon. We scarcely had a chance to get to know her, and to appreciate all her great qualities. I had hoped to watch her raise chicks with Lil Dad for many years to come.

And yet, suddenly it seemed, she was very ill. With great courage, she had masked her illness for as long as she could, but there came a time when she was too ill to hide her condition any longer.

Even then, she continued to watch over her chicks. Lil Dad, who knew how ill she was, continues to care for the chicks, as she knew he would. Wherever she went when she disappeared, it would not have been far from the nest. She would not have left her beloved chicks and her devoted mate.

It was heartbreaking to see her so desperately ill, and to be unable to help her. She showed the very highest level of courage, and that is part of her legacy.

Like all the great ones, she will not be forgotten. Her memory will remain with each of us, with her chicks, and with Lil Dad. I hope in the future we will be able to see Lil One and this year’s two beautiful boys with nests of their own.

NG was a great mother, very protective of her chicks, and a fine mate for Lil Dad. She was very beautiful, with exquisite markings and a proud, elegant demeanor. It took very little time to become deeply attached to her. I will miss her greatly.

According to one Native American belief, NG has travelled along the path of stars to meet the Great Spirit. She did not deserve to leave us so soon – but the very least she deserves is a path of stars, or a path of diamonds, to light her way.

She lived her life with grace, dignity, bravery and honor.

Thanks for posting that here, Alison!!! Such sweet words. I can't believe it's been a week. I hope she is now flying free and proud along the path of the stars. But I'm happy that the rescue this morning gave people a chance to check on Red, at least, and that he at least appears healthy so far...to me they both look fabulous :-)
