Checking on Orion. He's still home, and Beauty is at the NB with him.

Apparently, there were possibly 2 (big) females in the area. From what I understand, 2 females flew out over river and then B came back to box. I think during that time DC was on the wall? As for Beauty, she's staying pretty close.

And, obviously I'm late to this party, because they (watchers - DJ) thought it might have been another female at the box & DC on the wall?

Of course, nothing is confirmed, but it seems there is some type of intruder activity this morning. I'm not sure of the event timeline, so will have to wait for official report this evening.

my guess without being there is that it was falcons passing through.

We have been having this at Weber and when this happens , our young male stays clsoe to dad and Miss Edmonton watches over site. but in our case we are figuring a yearling, and this is what it could be over there. Miss Edmonton was not to bothered but chased them out when they came too clsoe

but of course B and DC would not want the young one out here with passers by .

Bill and I got there around 8:50 AM -MAK and Carol P. were on watch. Orion had 2 feedings prior to our getting there so there wasn't much action. He preened, stretched, laid down, walked to end of alcove wall and back-all under the watchful eye of mom and dad who were bookends on OCSR. At 11:30, Carol, MAK and I decided to go get some lunch takeout and Bill (not hungry) was left in charge of the watch. I was standing by the restaurant waiting for Carol & MAK to come back from Tim Horton's (BR break) when I heard Orion screaming and there was a flyover by Beauty which got O all excited. He did a little wing flapping at that time but more squawking as B landed on top of the backside of Times Square. He then settled down in the shade by the main cam for quite a while. All of a sudden, around 1 PM, B took off fast and the watchers (Brian was with us now with many others stopping by) thought they saw 2 females flying and one swoop on the other but then Beauty came flying in landing on the middle of the alcove wall ledge. She spread her wings and tail feathers very wide, almost like defensive posture or protective-very hard to say. It even puzzled Carol and MAK. Then Beauty walked the wall towards Orion who seemed to be cowering in front of her-no vocalizing. It was hard to see from our vantage point what was going on but people watching the streaming video said Orion looked "submissive" and someone posted it looked like she wanted him to fly. After, the watchers thought that maybe Pigott had flown into the city and Beauty was being protective but then they thought maybe it was just B and DC flying when they thought there were 2 females-it was too fast to really know. I was surprised by the number of people walking by asking if the baby had fledged yet or "what are you looking at" and looking through our binocs to get a peek! We left around 1:30 because the heat was getting to me but it was fun spending time with friends and Falcons!

Thanks for the report Kris!

I couldn't tell from the chat specficially what had happened.

Glad he's still at home, working on those wings. Looking at him today, I can totally see Beauty & DC in him.

Wish I had more time to watch these last few weeks.

I have been watching Orion, he has so much PERSONALITY ! :wow: Lapping up all the attention like a little star. :superstar:

I don't know if anyone on the forum plays Falcon Matchup, but maybe he would be a good mate for Zoe of South Bend. The South Bend nest has had a tough year, and a fun-loving falcon like Orion might be a nice match for Zoe. :teehee: But first this little guy has to grow some more and get serious about being a good provider. Pefas are very serious about that, and I'm sure he will have competition no matter who he goes for.

That was certainly weird behavior by Orion in that video but then the whole episode left us scratching our heads! Thanks for posting! When we shifted our sitting spot, to get into the shade, we couldn't hear that he made any sounds and we even commented how quiet he was! I guess he wasn't so quiet after all!

Sounds like a great idea now how do we get them together in a couple years :teehee:
