I am usually happy about eggs but I am not sure this is good right now.

Has anyone really seen Archer. Please don't kick me. I am trying to be optimistic ..... :egg16: :egg16: :egg16:

Carly, you wrote exactly what I was thinking too.
From the moment Beauty was taken into rehab, the "let nature have it's course" rule became invalid. Therefor they should not release her now, wait untill breeding season is over.
That's what they decided to do with S2 (De Mortel).

These are my sentiments also.

I know they were going to go up to some roof today. have not heard from Donna at all(.being cautious I guess)

I know how they all feel. I have been there at my nests. But to release Beauty , is not in best interests.

With the given situation right now-we didn't need
eggs and we really don't want Beauty in the nesting 2012 timeframe ...
How will Unity do it all `eggs, food, Archer`?

I totally agree with the sentiments of the rest of you! Another thought I had is that since Archer has been "out of commission" for several days, what are the chances that this egg is fertile anyway?

So Bitter Sweet!! I wonder what she will do. If she stays with Archer, this may be the only egg.

That's a good idea for Archer to incubate (if he can). They put their feet under the eggs so I don't know whether he can do that. On the other hand, Zephr manages.

What I was saying about the egg fertilization is that at the nests I watch a lot, like Harrisburg, canoodling goes on right up until an egg is laid. Of course, I don't know if that canoodling is for the egg being laid, or the next one down the pike!

Another great message, Birdmusic! :thumbup

I went to Froona's Corner to see if she says how far in advance eggs are fertilized & this is part of what I read: After mating, the sperm travels through the falcon's oviduct and concentrates in storage sites of the infundibulum. This is unique. The falcon has tubes in the infundibulum in which sperm can be stored for more than 2 weeks. In case she will not mate again, she will be able to produce a complete clutch.

Sounds like Unity could produce more eggs & they could be fertile.

Here's the link to where Froona talks about egg development:

Scroll down to July 30, 2009.

Not at all! Froona was very generous in sharing her knowledge! :thumbup

Wow, the action doesn't stop here. Hoping Archer is ok and just needed time to heal. All your updates have been amazing.

Add this information to eggs and fertilization. According to Dr. Watts, CCB~Richmond eagles, females can store sperm. .some can even store for up to several months. A single mating can be used to fertilize all eggs. I have no idea what is specific to a peregrine falcon. . just more "food for thought". .

thanks for the updates from today.. . and Froona to the rescue again. .thanks for finding the link, Catwoman. .
