Well, I agree that they should at least hold Beauty. Hopefully, if Archer appears to become weak, they will help him.

Failing those things, although we feel that the situation isn't going to be pleasant, we could be pleasantly surprised. We were concerned when Mariah was released but she went back to Rochester & didn't bother anybody right away. (Granted that she was much older than Beauty.) We were also afraid for Ranger & Boomer when Ranger was released, but nothing happened there.

It certainly sounds like you've done all you can, Carly, & the watchers have done all they can. I think its out of our control now.

I think they're concerned, as am I, that trying to catch him might just make his injuries worse, unless he gets much weaker so that he really can't fight them.

I saw those posts Carly, so I know what you are saying. I don't have words for what's going on. If he had come back after a day or two, then letting him "heal" on his own would have been the right thing. Doesn't appear that's happening here. I wish there was a way for them to get him and help him, or help him to the bridge.

Why would anyone want to watch "nature" like this? Doesn't make it pleasant and quite honestly, turns me off completely. I'd rather not have them search all day for him, only to hear he's still alive. And when I hear that, I'm assuming he's suffering.

I don't know what to say. In a way, if the outcome is death for Archer, I wish it would have been fast and painless vs. what he's going through now.

I don't mean to offend anyone and by all means, I HOPE and PRAY he comes back strong, but on the other hand, wish for him a quick exit instead of prolonged suffering.

I'm so, so sorry.

It is very confusing to me what the DEC's policy is. On one hand they say let nature takes its course and won't intervene on Archer's behalf, but on the other hand they went against that policy by capturing Beauty and taking her to rehab. :egg16:

Admittedly, I don't know the details of Beauty's rescue. Was it somehow different?

Beauty was on the ground when she was found. I believe it was some watchers who found her. Apparently he would be helped if he was actually on the ground.

Hate to say it, but I think Archer is destined for rehab. He is laying around too much to recover on his own at this point.

Also, most states don't work with falconers. It might be worth mentioning if anyone knows the wildlife rehabber. They may not be as aware of that as a solution, and I guarantee a falconer would be happy to have her for a few months.

The DEC there refuses to do anything to help Barb. The rehabber is very aware of what is going on and her attitude is the same 'they have to let 'nature' take it's course. One of the watchers posted today that she called her and burst into tears and still got the same 'we can't do anything' speech.

I think the watchers are as frustrated as we are and they are far too nice to take matters into their own hands.

I wrote to the DEC, I ranted on the boards, I've tried reason and logic. I tried being reasonable and now I'm going to just bite my tongue and watch a tragedy unfold while people that can do something, stand idly by and wait for some miracle of nature.

The person that Joyce contacted today is the head of our Genesee Valley Audubon Society that sponsors Rfalconcam and is our liaison to the DEC. She can talk to the DEC but they call the shots. She did tell Joyce she would contact the DEC today about the situation but probably, with the weekend, it will be more likely tomorrow.

Beauty was found by a Good Samaritan who called animal control who took her to a vet. No watcher ever saw her after she grounded except one who works at the vet who took her in. She was there until she needed a larger flight cage which they don't have in Rochester so the DEC transferred her either to Syracuse or Albany. We don't know where she is now. Mariah and Jemison were both taken to a rehabber in Syracuse, I believe, and were released in the Montezuma Wildlife Refuge.

Thanks for the update Kris. Perhaps there is a chance then. It sounds like Archer might soon be in a position to be captured. He will get weak without food if Unity doesn't feed him, and they obviously have a good rehabber up there. Carly, you are amazing to do all that. I swear I don't know how you find the time to work and be such an awesome falcon advocate and watcher. You must not sleep much :) I feel awful for the people on the ground there. It must be so frustrating for them. They are wonderful for doing what they do.

I'm pretty sure I just saw both falcons! The live cam was focused on Mercury, then it switched to the following view where I saw one bird and then a second one at the corner of the ledge at the bottom right of the picture. You can see the two of them perched in the space between the orange-brown building and the line of windows from the building behind. After a minute or so, first one bird flew off and then the second one flew!

If it was Archer and Unity, then things are definitely looking up in Rochester!

My fingers are crossed that all will soon be well here. It's certainly looking much better now!

And thanks, Carly, for keeping the rest of us updated about the sightings reported by the watchers on the Rochester forum.

Oh yes, thank you so much, Carly! I was really bummed out last night about Archer. I did have a thought that if it was pouring in Rochester, he probably moved to keep from drowning, & his being able to move would definitely be a good sign. And Catbird, I feel so much better after reading your post about 2 falcons & Carly reporting that Archer was seen with a full crop! Thank so much to both of you! :thanku

U just arrived back at nest box, chupping.

On UStream chat, comments that there were 3 birds...will have to wait for official confirmation from ground watchers.

Unity calling.
