Haven't had a chance yet to check out what happened, but here is Durand in the nest box a little while ago. She looks fine.

Wow, that was quite something to watch! Glad Durand stood her ground and was victorious. And good to see Spark was there with her afterwards.

Excellent video coverage of the intruder, SGB. I was surprised by the vocalizations by Durand which didn't sound like alarm calls. Could it have been a juvenile female....? I can't imagine anyone wanting to mess with Big Girl Durand.

It's funny that you would suggest that this could have been a juvie, Susan. I was downtown watching the ledge on Thursday evening and I thought for sure - although it was very hard to see - a falcon sitting on the ledge - I did think at the time that it might have been a juvie because it blended in so well with the building . I didn't give it too much of a second thought because I was not even sure if there was actually someone up there or just my imagination and then this intruder came around. Do you think the juvie could have been sitting on the ledge for awhile without Durand or Spark knowing it?

Watching the video brought back painful memories of the last time we saw dear Trooper. Poor little Durand running back and forth not knowing what to do it seemed, back then. But this time, she was standing strong and defending her ledge. I know that life cannot possibly be so unfair that Durand would lose her nest to an intruder after having gone through so much loss already. I hope that this falcon just moves on and Durand finally has the family that she so deserves.

Man, oh man, we just do not need this. Hopefully Durand gave it the message but we will have to keep watch for the next few days.

Unfortunately I am babysitting but I will keep cam up and Peter will buy my recording program for me.

thanks SGB and Carly for watching and recording. Not sure what I think about it being a juvenille. I have seen juveniles come to our sites and never saw this. they just sat around until Radisson and Miss Edmonton thought it was enough. Now a yearling maybe. But we will cross our fingers and pray. She deserves a good year, with the derelict males she has had.

Went back to look at videos. I did hear another faint falocn chirp so I think it was Spark nearby. the other falocn did come in very close, but Durand was doing what she needed to do.

grrrrr. .. I have been without internet all evening. . so glad there wasn't more excitement. .

I also found her vocalizations very interesting, but I think she did great. Wish the cam/video had been clearer then we might have a better idea if it was a juvie!! I thought it was so cute to see them both in the box afterwards.. I bet Durand was telling Spark all about it!!! :girlluv:

I'll be gone most of Saturday, so it would be great if several of you could check the cams when you have the time. .

I am trying to watch but refreshed ledge is down and so I have to keep coming and refreshing the live streaming so I cannot tape becasue it would just cut off????

the rain may signal the other falocn ot move on. good thoughts here.

I still cannot get refreshed cam. It stopped last night.
but it looks like rain has stopped and all quiet. No one around.

just checking in . no one so far. I have to keep refreshing live cam but I have sound up and keep coming in and refreshing.

would love to see Durand though. I do not want to take advantage anyone, that they will always be around.

one jut landed by cam and one came in by box an dis in box. It is Durand in box, I believe

one is right in front of cam an done left box( looking for leg)
taking shots. will post if any are good later

both still there
here are some bad shots
first one lands on ledge chupping( I thought Durand) but maybe spark and then went out of cam view

second one lands on ledge

one in box chupping and you can see toes of other

I believe Durand

one goes out of box and other one is preening. Could not see bands sorry

Durand still down by nestbox, grooming herself thoroughly, taking it easy. No sign of Spark right now.

Thanks so much for keeping watch, Bev., Carly, and Elaine. . Glad there wasn't a repeat of yesterday and both seem to still be going strong!!!

Let's just hope there won't be problems with the cam this year. . I think it was November (or was it December) of last year when we lost it and that's when we had the male turn over. .

Stay Strong Durand and Spark!! We want Scout and Orville Grand kids in 2013!!!
