Beauty returned to the box with food & DC took it away. About 10 minutes later, DC returned to the box with food & after a discussion with Beauty, hopped into the box & started feeding baby, with Beauty perched on the rail supervising. Well, he was too far away from baby, so he had to wait for baby to walk over to him. He fed for a little bit, looking at Beauty periodically as if asking how he was doing. Baby wasn't very hungry & Beauty could tell he was done eating, so she hopped into the box, at which time DC grabbed the food & left.

Surprisingly, she let him continue--she just sat & watched. DC didn't want to stop feeding baby even when he turned his back to DC. Before he left, DC turned to Beauty & it "seemed" like he was asking, "do you want the rest of this"? He then bowed to her & she to him, then he left. She then went in & tried to feed baby some more (which he didn't want). I think she's about to remove the leftovers.

Thank you for all the wonderful pictures. Baby is just too cute! :girlluv:
And whileBeauty and DotCa are busy honing their parenting skills, baby seems very well fed. Both huge crop and belly!

Can a falcon baby be overfed? This sure is one plump baby!! It has been funny to watch these parents try to out do each other in feeding this little one! I started watching the Harrisburg nest but it was after the boys there were a bit older. This is my first year watching falcons so I have a lot to learn! I really miss seeing the boys at that nest but know that nature has a plan. I'm still keeping up with Lil Dad and his new lady, Niecy. It has been so much fun to see this baby from the beginning.

Welcome to Rochester OBXluver! BCAW is a great place to learn about falcons and just about any kind of raptor. What you don't know, someone else will.

I readily admit I am no expert, but I don't think it is possible to over feed at this stage. Baby seems to pretty much stop accepting food when there is no more room in the crop. Later, when it gets closer to fledging, I have seen the feeding drop off a bit so when the time comes, the juvie can get stay aloft. At this plump state, this baby would have lots of trouble maintaining any kind of altitude!

Yes, that's one chubby chick this morning! He's just too cute with his full crop and full belly. I'm surprised he didn't fall over on his face. :egg9:
