How interesting that juvies from different nests were flying and playing together. It gives me hope that some of our juvies that seemed to have disappeared might have actually hooked up with another family at a nearby nest somehow. Nice pictures. :thumbup

Yes, it is very interesting to hear that unrelated juvies are flying and playing together. Thanks, Mike, for the news and the pictures!

And belated condolences to you, Bonnie, and the others who've watched over these falcons on the loss of Frankie. I was so sorry to hear the news.

On a brighter note, several juvenile Peregrines have been hunting thoughout the Meadowlands (not far west of JC) in these mid-late summer times. While Buzz, at least thus far, hasn't been among them, they've ID'd at least one from NYC, and there are at least 2 unbanded juvies around as well. Last Friday afternoon, I was on an old service road with a friend near some closed landfills, and got to see 3 juvies in the air together! One was banded (could've been the NYC youngster), 2 were unbanded. No aggression, just typical juvenile playfulness & mock-combat. Here are 2 of them:

Thank you so much for this very interesting information and the beautiful photos, Mike. The juvies have gorgeous markings, and I also love the photos of the Forster's Terns.

Beautiful pics, Mike!!!

Ya know, I shouldn't be surprised that juvies from different nests are "Playing" together. .that's very "normal" behavior for juvie eagles. ..it would only make sense that juvie falcons could do the same. .

Great photos Mike! Your photos keep getting better!! Really glad to hear about all the kestrels as populations keep declining. So interesting in the heart of Jersey to see all these birds.

Thanks Barb! Those pics were taken with my uncle's Canon Rebel T3i and a friend's 400mm f5.6 fixed/prime lens.

Agree about the kestrels. Seeing such a boom in their numbers this summer in this particular area is hopeful. Hopefully it's sustained in the coming years.

Mike, don't know whether you've looked at the Wilmington topic lately, but Greg & his wife rescued a Kestrel in the Wilmington area recently:
