I'm so glad now that these two are boys and not girls. Can you imagine Lil Dad dealing with two BIG girls?

You're right, Susan! I've read that males don't feed females once they get big because the girls could easily hurt him (unintentionally of course) in the process of eating.

Computer has been having fits, and I needed to regain my composure before beginning this message, plus wanted to read today's posts. Sue and I spent the entire afternoon downtown today. First stop was the roof of the Chestnut Street garage, where an Osprey flew overhead. The moment Lil Dad saw it from the stick, he was after it. He nailed that Osprey on the back a bunch of times before it flew off. We then checked more streets, alleys, rooftops, and everywhere we could think of, but sadly came up empty. We asked several places if people could check rooftops, and we were particularly touched by the kindness of a security man from the Hilton. He had somebody check the roof while we waited, told us to be comfortable in the lobby, and even went to get us a couple cold Cokes. I intend to call the Hilton later and commend that man to the manager, as he was as nice to us as could possibly be. We told him about the two young falcons, and should they wind up on the Hilton roof, that information will be passed along to the proper place. Sadly, we could not find any trace of NG, and am praying that her suffering is over. We did not check at the train station, but the folks at Dep have told them all about this terribly sad situation, so they are aware of it. Cannot think of anything else that can humanly be done.We did see the boys peeking out from the ledge a few times, and pray that their fledging will be successful. I am getting more than misty right now, and must quit. I am sure Sue will be posting something, or maybe has already done so.

Jane, you and Sue did what you could, and thanks from the bottom of my heart. I am very glad you found cooperative and understanding people. We may never know where NG went, which isn't a satisfactory situation, but perhaps what she wanted. We know Dad misses NG too, but he is carrying on with his lfe, and that's what we must do also. It's like having a fairy story change in mid sentence with an unexpected ending we may not agree with, but it is Nature's Way regardless, and life must go on with little time to mourn or wonder, just "do."

Reenie and Jane, I'd be there in a heartbeat to help look for NG and also would LOVE to be there when the 2 boys fledge to help out. But with my Mom's dementia, she can't be left alone at all anymore. You guys are awesome :girlluv:

I check in on the cam when I can, and I do read and keep up with all the posts, pics and videos.
This nest is how I got started watching falcon and other bird cams. It's a wonderful hobby!
Everyone be careful while you're out there doing what you can for these beautiful birds of prey! :flowers

Jane and I got downtown about 12:30, after checking the Ed Center (which everyone was out of the office), we went to the roof of the Chestnut St Garage to scan the surrounding rooftops. We weren't there very long before we saw an osprey approaching the Carson Building from over Strawberry Square. By the time we got to the other side of the roof, the osprey was over by the smokestacks and Lil Dad was diving on him. He hit him several times before the osprey got the message and hightailed it out of the area. It was very thrilling to watch, but we were not there to sightsee so we headed to street level and started beating the pavement. We walked behind B'nai B'rith Apts. Then over to Harrisburg Hospital parking garage, down to Front Street, across to the Human Services Building. From there we checked in at the Crowns Plaza Hotel and asked them to check their rooftop. They were jammed with a huge group of kids checking in but the desk clerk agreed to pass the request on to oMaintenance. Jane went to refill the parking meter while I went to City Hall to see if they would check their roof. The entrance security guard directed me to the Administration Building next door. The Director of Maintenance promised to have each roof managed by the Count within Harrisburg. Next stop was the Hilton. We hit a goldmine of helpfulness there. The security chief is a birdlover and he sent someone up to the roof right away and brought us sodas while we waited to hear. We checked back in at DEP, then headed over to the Capitol grounds and the Fifth Street Garage. Unfortunately, we found no sign of New Girl. All the rooftops were clear also. We were both pretty wiped out and we called it a day. We know we have done all that we could do. Sadly, I do not believe that we will find her. In my heart I am sure that she is gone. I pray that her spirit is soaring free from pain. It breaks my heart to face this, but I can't find any hope that she will come back. I loved that crazy girl with all my heart

Jane and Sue, thanks so much for tirelessly looking for NG. It would have been good to have her body, but it wasn't to be. God knows what he's doing, and some things are to be kept away from us. Just like Froona's message about the different dimensions, NG will always exist. We will never forget her and the young she produced. One has to wonder about her only having two and boys at that, this time. Many questions, ........ no answers........we must go on.

text Box was full - kindle fire doesn't have a scroll function so I couldn't finish in last post. I wish we could have found her so we would have closure, but she chose to go away and face the end on her own terms. I respect her courage and the devotion to her kids that led her to battle in their defense. Susie A, glad that you and Chuck will be able to make it for watch. I missed you last year! I need to go compose myself again, I want to thank everyone for the prayers and good wishes. We are all in this together even if we cant all be here together.

Reenie, glad you got to be at home today. Seeing first hand had to be so frustating, and hurtful, not being able to do anything. I hope with time those images will fade and you can heal some. It does take time. The saving grace are her Boy's and Lil Dad. They will make us all smile.I pray we have seen the end of pain for a time now, once we start healing. I also hope and pray that someday, LO, Red Boy and Blue Boy show up with their own families and carry on New Girl's legacy. That is the circle of life.

A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL who went on the Search Party this afternoon! Such dedication is above, and beyond the call of duty!

We are pretty much all in agreement that she is now gone. I will have a Memorial Service for her in H.B. when I get back from Ga.. Will let those interested in knowing when I return. Please contact me with your info. if you wish to attend, or sending your regrets. I will make it a little different than Mom's was, but it will be a fitting Memorial, and once again we can write our Memories of our sweet, crazy N.G..

Sue didn't mention it, maybe she forgot, but will everyone please continue to monitor the cams, particularly when there are feedings. I can assure you that the folks at DEP are very concerned about all of this as well as the rest of us. And Susie, am glad you and Chuck will be coming down this way. Looking forward to seeing you whenever it is.

Sure Jane. Sometimes it is hard to see them if they are far from the cam. I mentioned before how DEP was giving us notices this year, more than other years. Glad they are very engaged with what goes on.

Thanks, Jane and Sue for what you did today to try to locate NG and provide some closure for all of us. It can't have been an easy task just as it wasn't easy for Reenie to have to see what she did and record it in an effort to obtain help for her. Thank you all for trying.

I have often wondered if NG originally came from Three Mile Island as I know they don't band the birds from there. You all used to see her fly off in the direction of the river and be gone for long periods so I always thought that she went there because it was familiar to her. I may be mistaken, but I thought it has been reported that there is at least one other nest over that way under a bridge. But perhaps I'm thinking of another site. When Reenie said that NG was laying on the skylight, then flew off in the direction of the river, I thought that perhaps she was drawn back to a place that had been of comfort to her before, where she was taken care of as a young bird. If that is where she originally came from, I'd like to think that she went there for her last hours. I'm sorry she had to suffer the way she did. It wasn't fair to her, but as we all know, life isn't fair and Nature is Nature. It will be a long time until I can get those images out of my mind too, and I will fondly remember NG and some of the crazy things she did. She brought a lot of happiness in her all too short life.

May Lil Dad and her two boys live on and do well and remain healthy!

Most definitely, Jane. Although my watching has been greatly curtailed this year due to other circumstances, I do tune in as often as I can and will be sure to pass on any observations that I feel are important to check out.

I echo the sentiments of all who have posted before me. You are such a dedicated group of watchers and please know that your efforts are so very much appreciated. I am so sorry for the loss of NG. So sorry. Thank you to all who have looked for her and watch over her family.
