We just got home from the watchers gathering about an hour ago and there were, according to my count, about 27 of us! When we arrived, DC was with Orion on Mercury then DC flew off. Aquaduct Park is located next to the Genesee River with Mercury on a building above and to the right of the park. It was extremely hot, 94 degrees, but there are beautiful shade trees and there was thankfully an occasional cooling breeze. Orion was on Mercury for quite a while in the early AM so watchers had a chance to take some pics. Later he flew off to TSB-landing just above the nest box where he got some shade. He had 2 good feedings by mom and dad this AM so his crop was pretty full. DC flew in later landing on the right side of TS where it looked like he was eating and Orion seeing him fly over, started his usual begging noise! Then O surprised us all by flying down onto the nest box platform and going into the box! We left him laying at the base of the main cam in the shade. It was a day of good food, good friends-old and new- and Falcons!

This is great news that Orion is doing so well and staying out of trouble. I will be in Rochester tomorrow evening [traveling from Indy] and hope to see some good flying.
 See you all soon!

Just my luck. We had a brief bout of rain here, so I will probably arrive in Rochester just in time for the same storm. Maybe it will have passed through by the time I arrive...

I am lucky enough to see Orion flying like an adult. He seems to have skipped the juvie stage, let's hope. He is tucked in safe and sound on OCSR where few falcons choose to perch. He is on the restaurant level, of course, on the first ledge just at the base of the windows. There is an overhang from the top of the building just above him. He landed on the north side and walked completely around the restaurant. Beauty and Dot.Ca were out hunting.

He caught some wind and glided between TSB and OCSR, not once, but twice. He seems very able to maintain his height and fly up! Fingers crossed he remains safe and sound.

You can easily tell when Orion will fly. He starts kakking and flapping and running, yes, running back and forth before takeoff. Hope you get to see him. He is fabulous.

My visit to Falcon Mecca is over. I highly recommend getting to Rochester to meet the watchers and see the birds.
