Beauty has been visiting her Winter perch, which is Mercury, a few times this week. Usually early in the morning and early evening.

Both Beauty and Unity are holding to their territories, Beauty at the Times Square Bldg, downtown Rochester and Unity at Kodak Park. Archer has migrated. So, we wait and hope that a 2nd Tiercel visits Unity and that Archer returns to Beauty. We here in Rochester are hoping for a calm and peaceful year filled with lots of falcon babies.

I had to watch for a few minutes to be sure but yep there's a falcon sitting to the right of the hand of the statue. Looks like a penguin. :)

Thanks for the update, Carly. Not only is she Dorthy's granddaughter, she is a great-granddaughter of Mariah & Kaver, so she has really good genes. If there is anything that can be done to repair her wing, she might very well do well.

Some very, very sad news to follow up. Report from Beth Fife:

SAD NEWS, Jan 21, 1:50pm: Beth Fife reports, “With further inspection and care of the wing, they found it to be totally shattered and non repairable. The bird was put down. Sad, but it’s not suffering anymore.”

    Fly free, Callidora.

I always get sick to my stomach when I read these follow-ups....especially when it is about birds we have watched grow up. :cryinggirl:

Callidora was 40 miles from her gramma Dorothy's nest in Pittsburgh! Wonder if she was heading that way. RIP little one!

We lost another Rochester falcon. From 2006, a clutch of 3, Rhea Mae, Aura and our little RED banded Sabrina who turned out to be a boy aka Valiant!

Sad news to share - An adult pefa found on roof of school in East Aurora Monday, may have hit heating equipment.
Tag # Black - M Red-T
Tag # 168701185
information gathered when it was reported to the national hotline was that
it was from NY state and banded on June 6th 2005
Appears to indicate Rochester but color and numbers don't jive.

The colors and band did match. :(

From Eileen: My records show he nested twice in Ogdensburg with Zanar (69/K B/B 2004 Crowne Plaza Ottawa) 2009 & 2010. I'm not sure how many hatches there were in 2009, but I have them marked as not surviving to fledge. There were 4 hatches in 2010 and no reports of fatalities. There were no reports that anyone was able to find for 2011.

Fly Free dear Valiant!
