I seem to have missed Saturday. :egg16: Thank you so much Kim for providing directions. I hope to at least get a good view of the nest box. May or may not see the falcons.

Sometimes you have to wait a couple hours before you see them. Hopefully you'll get lucky!

CJ has been on the eggs for a while, and actually not looking around a whole lot. Frankiemac, seeing the Brandywine Building for real gives you a whole new perspective of the area. A real prime piece of real estate for Red Girl and CJ. Sure hope you get to see at least one of them, and please let us know how you made out.

I saw this video & thought of Kim seening RG splashing in water puddles a couple of weeks ago. I thought you would all enjoy seeing it! This is Polly in Montreal. I think I mentioned her in this topic a year or so ago. She had the injured leg & stayed with her parents in Montreal for a year, then disappeared. She was discovered at her own nest not far from her parents & her mate is her nestmate brother! :egg14:

Not yet. They were working on it last year, but I forget what happened to interfere. I think there was construction on the bridge or something. Hopefully this year they'll use the box that was put high up on the bridge for them!

FYI - Thanks to Kim for providing information on directions to the nest box, I just posted a new topic on the Wilmington forum that includes information on the nest box location, best viewing times, and directions.

Nice work on the info about where to find the Brandywine Building and the location of the nest box, Ethel. I'm sure that info will be very helpful to anyone visiting Wilmington in hopes of seeing Red Girl and CJ.

Missed seeing the switch, but Red Girl is on the eggs now. She must have been out enjoying a long breakfast. Actually this is the first time I've seen her on the eggs in a while.

Red Girl is on the eggs now, but I agree that she's seemed willing to let CJ do big turns.

Tuned in around 1:00 to find Red Girl on the eggs. It looked like she was chattering, and thought maybe CJ was outside the box, but if he is he didn't come in for egg duty. Wonder which day Frankiemac is coming to Wilmington? And there has been an intruder in Harrisburg this morning, but all seems under control right now.

While Jane was watching Red Girl on camera I was on the parking garage roof across the street and at first didn't see Red Girl on the box. There was a terrific Cack! Cack! Cack! as CJ came down out of the sky and after a big redtail not far in front of the nest site on the Brandwine Building. The redtail immediately sprinted northeast toward the Brandywine River with CJ in hot pursuit. More screams from above and Red Girl was on the box ledge, yelling encouragement to CJ (or imprecations to the hawk; all sounds the same). CJ relented when the redtail crossed the river, and stayed on post out there, flying back and forth from 200 feet up to about half of that. The hawk made her way northwest up the river but eventually came back to the west closer to the nest site, now a couple blocks north and circling higher. Red Girl took to the air with a Wichew! Wichew! I thought that she was going to climb after the hawk but she flew northeast toward CJ instead. I think she wanted relief at the nest, because shortly thereafter CJ flew up to the box and hopped in, out of sight. Red Girl flew on and disappeared northeast across the river.

The hawk climbed higher and higher, now mobbed by a crow. Presently the hawk set sail on a west-northwest course, probably migrating, and leaving the crow behind.

Wow, Greg. That must have been something to watch. Don't know that a Red-tail would actually pose a threat to the falcons, but any raptor in their airspace is not welcomed. Glad CJ And Red Girl are both OK. Wish you could have seen Red Girl's beloved Mom bombing a juvie Bald Eagle two years ago, shortly after the young had fledged. Her attacks were relentless, and the eagle finally flew off to the east, likely minus a bunch of feathers on its back.

It's sort of a standoff. Peregrines are faster and more dangerous in the air, but redtails are stronger on the ground and sometimes rob peregrines of prey.

GREAT REPORT GREG, I COULD PICTURE IT ALL AS I READ IT :-) I SAW MOM AND LIL DAD AFTER A RTH MORE THAN ONCE, BUT ONE WAS REALLY COOL AND PRETTY CLOSE SEEING HOW THE HAWK ROLLS AS THE FALCONS WOULD TRY TO BOMB IT. TALONS UP EVERYTIME. THAT WAS COOL TO SEE, BUT OF COURSE I WOULD FREAK OUT HOPING OUR FALCONS WOULDN'T GET HURT!

It has hit me that about five years ago one of the young falcons, a little male, mysteriously disappeared from the ledge. It happened over Memorial Day weekend, and the young had just been banded. A search was done EVERYWHERE on the ground, and he was never found. It was suspected that a Red-tail may have been responsible, but that was never 100% confirmed.

Wow - What an afternoon in Wilmington with the RTH! I'm glad that CJ and RG were eventually able to send it on its way. And thanks for the eye-witness reporting, Greg.
