And Mike and Bonnie, our local falcon stars, get credit again for all their hard work :ohyes:

p.s.- I'm hoping Kathy is right and the WV hacking program is ending

It's a labor of love  And we're so lucky to be able to do the fledge-watches (both at JC and a few other sites in north jersey)!

Oh, and we might get the roof-view cam back this year!! :hapdance:

Yup, that cam was sorely missed last year once the kids decided to start "playing outside" before fledging!

I just have to get permission to use my new/used 600mm lens in Jersey. Thought about doing the paperwork in January. But I haven't even started. It will be a challenge to photograph them with the big lens this year. Wish us luck.

why in the world would you require a permit for a specific lens?? technically anything or any falcon in open public view is fair game for whatever gear we decide to use? or is the spector of joe mccarthy present there in this crazy paranoid post 911 era? I could see requiring a permit to use a tripod however as that could impede public use of sidewalks

I think the tripod usage is what tips the balance. Plus a 600mm lens is an attention-grabber. Anytime we've been questioned, it was when the tripods & scopes were out.

I can understant that if I saw someone with a huge camera outfit pointed at my building it would make me a bit leary

You can't set up a tripod in NYC without a permit. We got building permission at Water St and we actually got Mack Cali permission in JC. Just nobody told the other security people on the weekends when we are there. It remains a huge problem. Just think 9/11 and the current security discussions. It remains a very sensitive issue.
