No, please don't remove your post, Ase. I enjoy them all. Thank you so much, Terka and Ase for capturing this fledge. I was watching live, but not quick enough to capture anything other than this one where Louise is flapping

Someone on the ground located the earlier fledgling, Banff, nearby on a lower roof or ledge. He is fine. She is currently looking for Louise.

July 7: other male (?) fledged about 10:15 am - and was found soon after by myself on lower roof near ledge. Last one left the ledge 2 hrs. later. No follow-up sighting as of 5pm. But not unusual. Many places to hide and rest. July 8: A89 found and rescued from park bench and put onto Craigie lower roof, with both parents swooping to take closer look and give warning. K91 - female was found by falconer pal who came at 7am and is in fir tree near Ed. Tower, but is safe and well hidden. Both intact and safe. Pls. refer to home page

this makes me a little nervous.

Thanks, bev. I've been following this site ever since I could finally get the cam a few days ago.

Although it was sad to lose the first fledgling, the other two are doing well. They were both rescued and released. Both were sighted as of late this afternoon. One was in a pine tree and has since moved, but the security patrol on campus seems to be quite good, so we hope she is found by morning.

They have a great team in Calgary!

Students at the library have been involved and put together this map with locations and pictures: http://goo.gl/maps/eRng

just pulled this report off

July 9th: Both fledglings spotted by me around 10am today. Male is on Craigie roof area in the shade, and female is on Science B. bldg - roof corner (east side) near the MacEwan Hall entrance area. Great news!

Yesterday, the young falcon Banff (A/89) was found on a bench on campus. He was corralled, put into the “rescue box” (see the photograph by Jeremy Stuart) and delivered to the roof of a building, while his parents were swooping around and shrieking.

Quote from the University of Calgary falcon website:
"July 11: both juveniles sighted (around 10am) on Math Sc. south-east corner roof - with parent close by on Soc. Sc. (adjacent bldg.) on top window ledge - west side. All is going well, despite the extreme heat. They often seek shade when it gets too hot, so will be moving around more now too. Some very positive news."

Recent messages found on the University of Calgary Falcons Website:

"Aug. 13th: While I was away this past week, the female juvenile, K91, had some sort of accident and was picked up neat Math Sc. bldg on Aug. 7th and taken to the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation. They checked the falcon over and determined she is just 'stunned' and no broken bones were found, so she will stay for a few days rest and recuperation and will be returned to campus as soon as she is deemed fully ready to re-join her family here. The other members of the remaining family often visit the ledge site and the young male and adult mom are often to be seen on or near Social Sc. The 'injured' female may have hit a bldg. or window or tried to get prey and missed and ended up colliding with something.

Aug. 15: Mom came to visit for quite while on Aug. 15, and much preening was in evidence. K91 still in rehab. care. Pls. refer to home page for further details and other links.
The live cam is still operational due to the visits that still occur and chatters are still around to watch this."

I hope K91 is doing well and will make a full recovery.

One of the parents visited the nest this afternoon:

Nice pictures, Alison

Recent news about Louise from the University of Calgary Falcons Website:

"Aug. 22: K91 (female juv.) is now at falconer's for additional rehab, and will be released next season when she is ready and able to be independent. Her left wing is not as strong as it should be for return to the family unit before they migrate, so for her sake, she is being cared for and will be given training so she is able to survive on her own when the time comes. It is a great comfort to know she is being well taken care of and will be fine once spring rolls around again.
Momma falcon and A89 (last juv. male) are around and sometimes visit the ledge, so the camera will stay on for now. I expect they will stay around until early to mid Sept. and dad is also about at times. The adults usually visit the ledge/scrape area before they leave, so expect to see one or more there at times."

And a picture of K91 in falconer's care:

Thank you so much for the update on Louise, rysx! It sounds encouraging; I am glad that she is being so well cared for, and will spend the winter regaining her strength.

I hope things are going well with the Alberta Institute for Wildlife. I know that a couple of months ago there was a report on the news that they might have to close down for lack of funds. Apparently a lot of donations came in at that time, and I hope people will continue to support them.

I did not know this wildlife institute existed. I will send in a donation.

God Bless our falconers for taking the task once again of getting our youngsters ready for release. without them we would be lost.

I will posting on Edmonton in next couple of days about our fundraiser and the youngster Gord has, with picutres. Similar situation.

A short visit to the nest; gone after this pic.

Bev, the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation has been around for a long time.

Here is an article on their financial situation earlier this year:

I am looking forward to reading your Edmonton updates.
