Hello to all,

I'll try to give you as much info as I can, but I'm not as quick to reply
as people who have lots of experiences with discussion forums.

As I mention in my reply this year it's a little bit complicated
with Roger and Spirit at the University of Montreal because
of all the work that needs to be done to the building.

They're 2 temporary nest boxes on each side of the tower
that where installed last year, to accommodated the couple.
But has we noticed there's no indications that the falcons
like the new nests.

They still come around the tower and the chapel of the
University but something strange happen this weekend,
when both of theme where mating in the pictures we took
we saw the female didn't have her band and now we're
wondering if it's an optical issue with my lens because of
the distance or it's a new female we have now.

Well see in the weeks to come, if it was true.

As for Polly and Algo, it's business as usual so far
and they've decided to nest underneath the
interchange instead of the brand new Hi-Tech
nest box that was install for them...what
can we say...?????

If you have any questions I'll try to answer them
to the best of my knowledge.

Bye,

Rick D.

Thank you for stopping by Rick we are just so happy to have you with us and WE DO understand about the posting, those silly falcons Polly & Algo don't they understand all the trouble that went into the nestbox :teehee:
I don't want to sound bad but I do hope it is just a distance problem with your lens that didn't get bands on the female, and it is Spirit there

You have such a wonderful talent, and we are so grateful that you are sharing it with us. Thanks again!

:grwelcom To the forum Rick!!! It's really great to have you here. . and thanks for your info on the 2 nest!! I sure do hope that spirit is seen. . .and very sorry about Polly not using your new Hi-tech box. . I guess "If you build it, they will come" doesn't apply to peregrine falcons!!1 :teehee:

Hello to all,

here are some news from our falcons of the University of Montreal.
Spirit and Roger are still together, the last information I've received
while I was on holiday gave me the impression that they were trying
to nest at the St-Joseph's Oratory .

Yesterday I went with a friend at the Oratory to check up on them
and after 3 hours of observation, I was able to confirm that there
was no presence of nesting on the structure of the building.

From what I've observed I've got the impression the nest, if there is
one is on the roof of a building between the University and the
Oratory since the falcons have been seen on both buildings
and they can see the nest from both places in case of the
presence of an intruder in the area.

There's also a chance that we don't have a nesting season
this year with those falcons but I can't confirm that since
it's the first time since 2009 that we have a situation like
that.

You can see some photos of Roger and Spirit here:

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 053&type=3

and I've made 3 videos:

Spirit :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxKPkjNT ... ature=plcp

Roger:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Moaq-Awu ... ature=plcp

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeMOYxaV ... ature=plcp

Another observer sent us this link where he saw one falcon in a tree (probably Roger) and
another one on the Oratory at the same time (Spirit) but on the opposite side of where
I saw them Saturday.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_N7zg0E ... e=youtu.be

So the search is still on.....

As for Algo and Polly we've made a quick stop at the Turcot interchange and
it"s business as usual for them. If all goes we will see some hatching around
the last week of April and or early May.

Richard, it is good to hear from you, and thank you for the videos and photographs of Spirit & Roger. It's so good to know they are doing well and hanging out at such a pretty building. :egg7: I hope they have a nest tucked away somewhere there.

Good to know that Algo and Polly are doing well also!

Thanks again for posting your report from your ground observations.

Hello,

yesterday I went to the Oratory to see what was happening
with our peregrines here are some vidéos:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58dKzbf0URs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGaGwz4BJTg

there's a chance of nesting base upon the last
observations I've received from observers and
what I saw Saturday.

Also I went to see what was happening with Polly and Algo
at the Turcot interchange.

We can see one of them turning the eggs in this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kyBuEIO6ao

As you can see it's a little bit hard to see what's
happening inside the nest..

Cheers!

Thank you for capturing the activity of Roger and Polly, Rick. I do hope Roger and Spirit are able to nest this year and produce eggs/chicks. Your videos are extremely valuable and we are so fortunate to have you here posting them. :boogie

Hello,

here are the latest news from Montreal.

We have confirmation of a nest of Roger and Spirit at the Oratory
and incubation begun around April 16 but we don't have any info
on the numbers of eggs present

For Algo and Polly it's a different story story.

They eggs hatch early last weeks and so far
there is 2 juveniles present in the nest but
no photos available yet.

But we have a special situation over there, a
female intruder is present and she doesn't
have any bands on her legs. We named her
"Shirley".

Me and another observer saw her Friday morning
May 4:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4avXI6OU ... ature=plcp

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQLSAxRL ... ature=plcp

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL-o1LNj ... ature=plcp

Saturday I went back to see if Shirley was still around and she was ,
I've seen her once on a roof of a building not far from the nest and
I also saw Polly that showed her the way out that day.

As for the juveniles, I'was recording a video during feeding time
and hoping to see if I could get a view of the little ones but
where the nest is located, the angle of view is not that good:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DW37Nin5 ... ature=plcp

Last Monday I went back again and this time
a big surprise was waiting for me.

Algo and Shirley mate together!

You can see pictures here:

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... 053&type=3

It happen around 10h00 am that day and she came close
to the nesting site and Polly showed her again the way
out.

There's one detail, there's no fight between the 2 females
Polly just chasing her out of the nesting territory.

Shirley came back later that day around 6h00 pm and stayed on
a roof of the same building I saw before until 7h30 pm when
she decided to come and get a meal that Algo prepare for
her and from what we saw, she was waiting also for something
else but Polly showed her that she wasn't please to see her around
again. So she showed Shirley for another time the way out.

A friend went there yesterday and there were no signs
of Shirley but from what I saw between Algo and Shirley
it was not the first time they've mate together, so we
don't know if we're gonna have another peregrine family
in this area.

I'm suppose to go to the Oratory in the days to
come and I'll try to get and update on Roger
and Spirit.

Bye!

Hi Rick. Thanks so much for posting this report and your videos from the Montreal nests. I was so happy to hear there are two little chicks at Algo and Polly's nest, but then surprised to read that Shirley is hanging around. Oh dear. I hope she does not interfere with the chicks.

It sounds like there is a lot of traffic. Is there an area where these chicks can safely fledge to when the time comes?

Hello from Montreal,

here's the latest news with Roger Spirit, Algo and Polly.

If everything goes well, it's this week that we'll know if
there's any new born with Roger and Spirit. We're keeping
are fingers crossed.

As for Polly and Algo the juvenile is already 20 days old

http://tinyurl.com/79pkocl

He's well feed and he's healthy so far.Unfortunately there
will be no banding done at the Turcot interchange this
year. Since these falcons are under high surveillance
nothing will be done to stress them.

Shirley has not been seen since Sunday May the 13.

As for the banding with Roger and Spirit no decision
has been taken so far.

You can see the videos that I took since the 20 of May
here:

http://www.youtube.com/user/Rickd5689

Hope to come back to you with good news from Roger
and Spirit.

Bye,

Richard D.

Thanks for that update, Rick, on the nests in Montreal. Can't wait to hear if Roger and Spirit have some chicks. :loveheart:

It is good that Shirley has moved on, but I sometimes wonder about the mating of brother & sister and if that is good for a species. :egg16:

Hello,

here's an update from Montreal.

When I went to see Roger and Spirit Wednesday morning
at the St-Joseph Oratory and I've noticed that they were
not at the nesting spot where I saw them before.

They seem to have move to another location on the west
side of the building.

At the present time I don't know what exactly happen
but I will find more details in the weeks to come.

Here are some videos I've made that day:

Roger:

Spirit:

Thank you Rick!

Nice videos-the leap in the last one was 'cool' ...

Do you think they lost their clutch this year?
